Bomani was an economics professor.Dude is the closest thing to Ralph Wiley from an intellectual stand point that shytty ass ESPN has had since the late Mr. Wiley passed away.
From the first time I heard Bomani on the morning Jones I knew dude was the most intelligent person in mainstream sports (which ain't saying much cause most are intellectually dishonest, racist and tap dancing c00ns). But Bomani is highly intelligent and could be a professor (he was in a PHD program at one time).
I know he enjoys being in sports.....but he could really be used in academia maybe at a HBCU like Howard or Morehouse (or any HBCU) or a established HWU.
Anyway I am not surprised by this. Dude parents are both professors who have taught at HBCUs (I think they were in the civil rights movement also), have taught in Nigeria and have backgrounds in black history.
So Bomani has been taught at a very young age about the game of racism. Seeing him on a show like first take doesn't even scrap the surface of dudes concept and view of race relations.

We saw what happened with Donald Sterling, so yeah its not surprising that white owners and white athletes are glad they don't have to speak about social issues

I think he taught at his alma mater ( Clark Atlanta University) for a little bit.
Word? Where was this? Not tryna throw shade, just legitimately curious as to the setting.... I hung out with dude on several occasions at the NC Pro Am back when he had his local show here in Raleigh, and dude was very comfortable with the people. He used to clown me on the air over a story I told about punching a dude in the nuts when I was growing up in the projects. Then when he met my son, he asked him if I had taught him those same lessons lol. Even popped up at my job to kick it after he was let go by the idiots at Capitol Broadcasting even though he had what was easily the most popular show on the station. In fact the last time I called him on his ESPN show, he still referenced it from what, almost 7, 8 years later? Put me up on a lot of game about the radio biz. Always seemed like a reasonably sociable cat to me.![]()
. He mentioned that he popped up at your job too.

Check this out homie. After the US invaded Iraqi a few players spoke out on it. One being Steve Nash with Dirk piggy backing on it saying he hates to see war and people dying.
So the Dallas media went full blast in them dudes. Cuban pulled them aside and the next day Nash and Dirk were like no comment and I don't have anything else to say.
The media being the bytch that they are tried to get some sound bites. So they go to nick van exel.....anyone who knows him...knows that he will back his teamates.
The media asks Nick how does he feel about Nash's and Dirk's comments. Nick looks at the camera and says....well those guys have every right to voice their opinion. This is America and we have freedom of speech.
Do you know the next night when the mavs played at home in Dallas the fans booed Nick Van Exel. Not Nash or Dirk who made the comments but Nick Van Exel.

Nash's comments provoked a fierce reaction in the media, particularly by journalists outraged that a professional athlete had the temerity to express an political opinion. ESPN gadfly Skip Bayless, then of the San Jose Mercury News, told Nash to "shut up and play" and reminded readers that basketball players "are paid money because they serve as an escape." Dave Krieger of the Rocky Mountain News, meanwhile, said that athletes "seldom know what they're talking about."
The Courageous Brilliance of Steve Nash
Thing is man I have always said that the owners are basically all the same. I mentioned this when Lebron went back to Cleveland.
Yeah the lil midget wrote that letter and acted like Lebron owed him shyt. But just look at how the heat organization treated Wade. Look how many star black players have been treated by teams/owners over the years.
IMO all these jokers the same.
Also the media folks ain't innocent in this shyt. these hoes will talk about Ali, Jim Brown and Kareem and say why aren't players like this now a day. But refuse to acknowledge the media back in the day hated these dudes and only speak on them now because they are old and docile. While at the same time never mentioning how they propped up dudes like OJ the safe negro as the anti Kareem, Jim Brown and Ali.
This the media who will say to athletes why don't you stand for anything then ask for Abdul Rauf to be cut from a team or ask for Larry Johnson to take back his comments about America. Or even last night say about that Lebron, Wade, Paul and Melo's comments mean nothing.
Second this last 30 years in America I have known of only one star white athlete or athletes in general to really speak on social issues and that was Steve Nash. Even before him there were no white athletes who consistently spoke out on racial or social issues in the 60s and 70s. That burden has always been on black athletes and the burden has always been on them to be role models. All while white athletes can do whatever they want without a what about the kids, community or country talk that they always throw at black athletes.
Finally always remember this. Joe Louis was the dude who white America held up a an inspiration to his race. He fought for this country, gave up hundreds of thousands of dollars for this country and always presented himself in the best light to the media and fans.
All that good will and all that brotha got in retire was the IRS trying to break him. Then when he was old and suffering from dementia and had no where to live, no one was there to help him, not the media who called him a champion for America and his race or the US government who he helped in a time of need.
Only one who gave him a hand was the mafia who made sure he could live his last days with some dignity. The wise guys put him up in a apartment and made sure he had lights, heat and food.......let that marinate for a minute.
