he ain't been the same since he was on the score/sirius xm.
He already out a big ego but once them big checks started rolling in that shyt seemed to hit a whole new level. That to me is when it started coming off as talking like he was above sports and talking at the audience instead of coming off like he was on of the audience.

When Coach Prime left JSU for Colorado, Bomani spoke a lot of Black, Black, Black rhetoric to criticize him. This is the perfect opportunity to walk what he talking.
He was right to criticize him tho. Bc Deion sold the game like he would be different but he was like any other coach leaving for a better program. :yeshrug:

I smell a Bomani Jones/LeBatard reunion.
That would be dope but…and maybe I’m off….seems like Bomani would have issue with that pride wise.

I’m Bomani’s case, he’s said multiple times he’s not really of that cloth. And recognizes that even with ESPN, he only says but o so much on ‘Black’ issues.

Bomani’s issue with Dieon was not that Dieon should be ‘Black, Black, Black’…..but don’t preach that type of rhetoric if you’re not in it for the long haul and willing to take licks.

Seems like Bomani doesn’t like when current sports figures (Lebron, Dieon) try to make it seem like they’re in the same ilk as former black sports figures (Ali, Russell, Kareem, John Thompson) that were more engaged in moving the needle. Which make sense when he specifically goes out of his way to say he’s not of that ilk/heart either.

Besides Bill Simmons and LeBatard, what other media personalities have built their own ‘network’?

(Using “built” loosely. LeBatard actually built a solid core of personalities around him and was then able to get DraftKings to put some money behind it.

I don’t listen/follow Simmons as much, not sure if he built it organically and the money came in…or some corporation just gave him a deal and money to start building the The Ringer/Grantland)

LeBatard had the benefit of having Skipper by his side to do all of the talking in the room and some of those talent were people formely hired under him.

Grantland started out as a blog albeit under ESPN, but was more organic as a lot of those writers were handpicked by him and actually still speak highly of him till this day. Him creating The Ringer was more so getting the resources and creative freedom that he wasn't getting from ESPN. Not to mention, Skipper technically was the person who suspended and eventually fired Simmons.

Some media personalities have created their own podcast network, but not on the level of someone like Simmons.

Deion was a tremendous stimulus package for JSU, SWAC, and HBCU sports. The Athletic Director who hired him at JSU seemed to be aware of what Deion's short and long term plans were.
Non-JSU students & alumni who publicly commented had a right to do so, but it was hollow in my opinion. Deion didnt owe anybody outside of Jackson State anything. They benefited from him attracting a HUGE spotlight towards HBCU sports in general to the tune of millions of dollars. And then he moved on.

He has a right to express his opinion. Lets see what he does now

Please point out these things I keep hearing he did for HBCUs not named JSU that no one can specifically point out a single solitary thing except “he brought exposure.”

I’ve never seen so many HBCU games or coverage on tv since I was a kid and broadcasters have to pay for those rights.

Putting exposure in quotes makes it seem like it isn’t a valuable thing. If it wasn’t the advertising would not exist.

Chad Milman basically built the Action Network as the Chief Content Officer even though Patrick Keane is the CEO.
Colin Cowherd founded The Volume.

There's room to start your own company if you have enough of a base.

Bill was in a space where he basically built Grantland so he kinda knew what to do when it came to building The Ringer and already had a few people in place to start it with him.

We made posts about them in real time.
Pepsi just renewed their SWAC deal last week.
Here is thread about when it was first signed

SWAC broadcast deal signed while national spotlight was on HBCU sports because of Deion

SWAC commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland speaking about the effect on 60 minutes

He basically just hired people who came on his podcasts or were friends of his. Basically the same thing that Dan has ended up doing.
I was more so referring to his Grantland tenure and a lot of those young writers he helped put on at the time and nudged them towards learning how to talk during podcast and television appearances.
