It’s a good article but I don’t buy into his argument that Bomani’s show being cancelled is some referendum on smart sports discourse.

Sports shows have historically performed poorly on HBO, with Real Sports being the exception. It’s also on a premium channel so it’s not going to have the same reach to the average sports viewer. And did HBO even promote it to begin with? I never knew Bomani had an HBO show until I saw it in the app. I never saw a poster or billboard or tv commercial for it.

So that show failing is a terrible hill to die on for this “people prefer stupid hot takes” conclusion.

But even more than that, journalism, in all its forms, needs to set the standard. If you’re going to let the stupidest people’s likes determine the content of your programming you’re going down a hole that ends with you becoming a circus. Not a news organization.

Incidentally, that’s what ESPN and Fox Sports is now: a circus.

I think the biggest problem with Bo is that he so badly wants to be seen as sauve and likeable and cool while also trying to be a troll. If he wants to go the troll route he should commit and go the whole way with it. Instead he comes off as smug and like he’s too cool to engage in typical sports arguments which when trying to sell to sports fan is going to lead to people not fukking with you.

At this point now, I'm sure Bomani knows what he is. I like the lane he's in. He's not going to get the big fame of others perhaps but his talks with Spencer Hall and how one time, they were going on and on about Stevie Wonder was amazing content. His talks with Foxworth on Friday are gold too. I don't need the yelling and bombastic takes from others. He has a lane. It may not be wide but he has a lane.

Bo dealing w/ wha alot of those who "came of age & found they voice" on Twitter finding out in recent times: When you decide to operate in a vacuum & only allow in that with which you agree with its easy to be the brightest bulb in the room. But that inability the deal w/ others that don't agree yet still be engaging is where longevity lies.
There's a certain audacity in being "right", it creates blinders, but how do you move when u "right" but the mfers who are wrong have enough power to make their wrongs right?

The show came Off too scripted (cept the in the street shyt) Because he, unfortunately, is Not naturally funny. But is informed and nuanced.

Yeah his lane is narrow when you break it down. What gets clicks and ratings a la Cam, stephen A, shannon sharpe, kinda shows you how the audience wants they black sports personality to be.

Why cant they accept that a lot of people just don’t like Bomani. It’s not about wanting hot takes over substance, it’s Bomani. I consume a lot of MLB radio and video content, and if you do the same you know of all the sports it lends itself the least to hot takes and is almost all substance, and I strongly dislike Bomani.

All of it isn’t even his fault, even his voice is annoying. But he isn’t doing himself any favors by being so sensitive that he resorts to banning twitter followers who weren’t lock step in agreement with him. Those same people you banning are who you need to sustain your show! If you can’t handle them on Twitter you damn sure won’t be able to handle them on the air now.

I go back to Rod putting cats on to Bo on the score. He's a pretentious know it all sometimes it comes off endearing a lot of the time it's off putting. Used to listen to all his content now close to none. He's Hella talented and smart he just is better in a wacky ensemble

Yea...for a show with Bo to work, you need an outrageous character like Papi involved and even Dan wasn't as serious.
