We'll see. It's worth pointing out McConnell did not want this guy nominated. Trump picked him on his own. The concern McConnell had was the documents and the shady process that led to all this. It's certainly possible that McConnell simply lets this dude drown so he can get his own non-controversial suggestion confirmed quickly.

I think it's very clear that this dude has been selected because he will rule in Trump's favor in any pardon or criminal issue regarding the Mueller investigation.

Yeah it's getting to be very clear that the only reason he was the nominee is that he gave Trump the loyalty pledge he required. There were likely several other candidates that would of been less of a hassle than this goofball but since he kissed the ring.

I read this and I was hoping for something very damning outside of the usual conservative stance on racial profiling.

I'm not a lawyer, but from what I read and my understanding, the discussion is of the level of responsibility the government should hold in pursuing or not pursuing cases regarding discrimination in the private sector. Also, how you would judge if the government was indifferent and to what level of indifference the government can be judged with in this case. What criteria would be used.

Also, other emails discuss whether race should be a factor or if a race neutral system needs to be developed to handle "profiling" done by government agencies like the TSA.

I think the more pertinent take from these documents is the labeling of them being committee confidential in the first place and being withheld. All of these should be made available to the senate to be discussed and by extension the people. The opinions and positions taken by the candidate are relevant sure but you can only glean those positions by having access to the documents first.

It's always weird and sometimes disappointing to find out the political leanings of the people you like, admire for their skills, etc. I actually do follow conservatives people on Twitter because I want to be informed on the crazy and echo chambers that they traffic in. I follow a lot of athletes too. I used to stan some of the not as popular players like Robert Pack and Drazen Petrovic. Another player is Rex Chapman. He's always going hard on conservatives on Twitter. Just a thought as I read tweets from Kentucky Wildcat fans, telling him to stick to sports.

I'm not seeing anything in these e-mails apart from mainstream conservative beliefs about race neutral laws and the Fourteenth Amendment. Seems like grandstanding.

There is an argument there for racial profiling being acceptable. Also definitely a argument that he is against affirmative action in any form.
