OK
Just got recommended a book called "Sky full of elephants" by Cebo Campbell. The blurb:

Basically, it's a world where cacs in America drowned themselves and a the main character is a Black man who goes on a road trip with his biracial kid he didn't know he had :russ: the person who recommended this made the story sound hilarious so I had to cop it

“They killed themselves. All of them. All at once.” :wow:

Cebo set that tone off right. I finished this about a month ago and I thought it was dope. I went in blind so I had no idea how they were going to present and resolve the main conflict but I think it ended up working out.

So much betrayal :wow:
So many traps :wow:
So many battles :wow:
So many deaths :wow:

I have no words for the coup and Dancers death. This was a wild stretch to read and then we find out who the Queen of the syndicate is..the Jackal's former right hand woman...Lilath

Not your traditional 'time travel' story but more of a identity analysis on some "man out of time", and woman ahead of her time type ish in an emotionally grounded story. I enjoyed it.

Finished Never Flinch by Stephen King and now I'm done with Bill Hodges/Holly Gibney series.
He had multiple black characters and there weren't any n-words :gladbron:. Yesterday I read The Monkey from Skeleton Crew and despite there being no black people the n-word was used twice in description of the toy monkey's smile :why:

I think I like Holly a little more but it was still a fine story. There was a plotline that reminded a lot of the b-plot from Insomnia. Even the similar character in both had some similarities. I don't have a problem with King revisiting but I can understand how that could annoy some people.
Looking around online I noticed that mayonnaise complected folks seem to be really bothered by Jerome and Barbara :mjpls:. I seen and heard comments stating that they are too perfect and they don't have any character flaws or growth :smh: I'm not seeing what they are seeing.

Went to Goodreads to see what the one star ratings talking about

Holly was a decent read. It was the first and only book I’ve read from the series but I liked it enough to want to check out the rest at some point.

Reading The Mountain in the Sea right now. Anyone looking for a good summer read, I highly recommend. Part sci-fi, future dystopian eco thriller/horror and very thought provoking. Downright creepy at some points.

Ray Nayler has a little Crichton in him but with seemingly better writing skills.

This is his first novel and I’m probably going to check out his second Where the Ax Is Buried

Started 11/22/63. Didn't know that there was going be ties to It.
From what I read so far Insomnia and 11/22/63 deals with the aftermath of It.

I feel like it was one of the weaker books in the series

But it really got the point across of how tired and worn down Hadrian was at this point

I think the Normans are supposed to be black if I remember correctly?

Yeah the Valka death hit hard. They’d been together for so long

Losing everyone back to back to back and being alive 100s of more years after has to be brutal
