He def has no problem with critiquing certain political or fascism type of bs, and just regular fukk shyt in general, which is also why he prolly turns some people off too, cuz to them, they prolly feel like he should be the of writers lol.

He def need his own lil genre blend cuz you can never truly just pinpoint one thing with his work.

I'm actually doing an adult reread of Tolkien right now which will eventually include The Silmarillion and I can't say enough how much I enjoy both his and King's styles of writing even though they differ, but some of their approach is the same. Like you said, you can tell they write and world build because they love it.

Shyt, ain't no mf reason at all King would keep pushing these 800-1000 books out when most people would have them trimmed/edited/clipped to no recognition

I went into Middle Earth blind. I only seen the animated Hobbit movie when I was a little kid and all I remembered was that the ring made Bilbo invisible. The order I read it was The Hobbit, Silmarillion, and then Lord of the Rings. Man, I was legitimately blown away with how good those books were. It deserves all the accolades and I honestly feel it is still the top Fantasy series. I know there are people that want to act like it has been topped (ASOIAF has the closest but GRRM has to finish it) but I can't think of any fantasy series or book that is even close to being fleshed out and as epic as LOTR.

Yeah, I don't know how all these conservatives are just now upset that SK shyts on them in his books because he has been doing it since the very beginning

Yeah, I feel like some mfs focus too much on the science behind it all in fear of being called out by particular group of people who'll be overly annoying about shyt not making sense.

Same goes with fantasy, and how some prefer the subtlety of Tolkien's approach to an obvious magical world but doesn't necessarily bang you over the head with rules, spells, power levels in favor of weaving the narrative, history & culture/linguistics to carry the story.

On one hand tho, I feel they pay King respect by making a movie or show for damn near literally every book that he writes but on the other hand, in the reading/writing world, you def hear a lot more complaints about him, but I think most people still think of him as upper echelon when discussing writers of today.

shyt was a beast to finish, but I read 5 chapters a day to eat away at it.

So far I wanna see this saga on TV.

just finished the third interlude in It. I'm loving all of Mike's sections in this book.
I noticed that King was working on the concept of Ka and Ka-tet in this also the roses. I'm glad I read The Dark Tower series prior because I would've missed them

You ever checc for The Eyes Of The Dragon? That's what I'm reading right now and it has that guy Flagg in there, who I've heard about in relation to The Dark Tower series that I'ma prolly run thru eventually.

It's more of a traditional, dialed back fantasy read that he wrote for his daughter....like if somebody needed to prime their pre-teens or teen before exposing them to ASOIAF & shyt lol, but pretty entertaining so far.

I read it last year right before I read the Gunslinger. His daughter didn't like his horror stuff so he switched it up. In doing so he got hate mail which led to him writing Misery.

Finished The Eyes of the Dragon by King several days ago. Pure fairy tale fantasy by King that is very different from everything else I have read from him. The way it's written made me think of The Princess Bride with how it's a parent reading it as a bedtime story, and that may be way I enjoyed it more when I read it in bed as opposed to during the day.
There is a part in The Drawing of the Three that is a direct reference to the end of this book.
Seems like a lot of people online in the King fandom that don't like this book but I was into it

Eyes of the Dragon is a good read to me so far. Slap some more gore in it, some vulgarity, and mfs would be saying this the best thing since sliced bread

Yeah I thought it was straight but it seems like the long time King fans that started when they were kids are so-so about it at best.

Kingslingers had a good podcast on it. (There might be some Dark Tower spoilers. The podcast started out as a Dark Tower read along which I recommend when ever you start it. They pointed out some things I missed)

Finished It by Stephen King last night. 5 star book, easily! The infamous sex scene was weird and I think I would've had an easier time reading it if they were high school age at the least but even with that it didn't knock down my score.
Some much of the bones in the Dark Tower are in this book.
I see they missed up splitting the kids and adults sections into separate movies. If they ever adapt it again it has to be made into a series and needs to include the Turtle

@2 Up 2 Down Speaking of filler books and those who catch flack for volume output; I def just came across a post that showed a screenshot of Frieda McFadden fighting back against the "you use AI to write books" and "if you only write 1 book per yr the quality would be better" by saying this is probably why Stephen King tried to use a pseudonym at one point

So, casual people definitely correlate higher volume = books trash lol. Of course, some will pick and choose if they like said author but it's a predominant notion still.

And now that you mentioned it, and I haven't read the entire series yet, but I remain shocked that The Dark Tower doesn't as get much love when discussing fantasy series. People always see him as the horror/thriller/sometimes'y sci Fi guy and they feel that stuff is low hangin' fruit for some reason even though he uses those mediums to drive all kinds of themes into his books.

And I'm NGL, kinda working on my own shyt on the side while still enjoying the love of reading again, and I'm leaning way more toward a Tolkien kind of homage/presentation than the current, modern day scene so if you see me in the near future, don't judge me too harshly

But yeah it's def all too easy to get into the game now, just like with rap, and it leads to shyt being watered down. Fasho saw this dude bragging about self publishing 3 books in 1-2 years and saying how he feels no book should be over 200pgs

Yeah, King is clearly passionate about writing and I would think he would still be writing even if he didn't make it big. I never read McFadden but she has a fan base and some haters so she must be doing something right. But yeah King I think really falls under magical realism the more I read him. I can honestly say that he has written some stories that had me like and the only other author that did that was Tolkien when I got to the end of the Lord of the Rings.
I think a lot of people read SK at a young age so they missed the emotional elements and only looked for the scary. I also noticed that some Gen Z people get caught up on the problematic elements and not realize that those elements are in the characters voice. I poke fun at his "n-word" usage but he is showing how white folks are behind the door even the liberal ones.
