I don't know when I'll get around to reading them but I thought I would share a recent purchase. You don't come across many science fiction prose books with a black protagonist prior to the 2000s from a big publisher

Anybody checc'n for that King Sorrow joint that's finna drop by Joe Hill? Still ain't read nothing by da homie but I got some shyt in the queue.
I've been hearing nothing but good things about Joe. I haven't read him yet but I do own NOS4A2 and 20th Century Ghost, and I will cop King Sorrow. Hearing that he writes very similar to his dad makes it an easy blind buy
The Sicilian is probably one of my favorite books. Definitely read it.

I kind of like the last don too.

It's a shame the Sicilian never got a proper American release, and honestly an adaptation of the last don wouldn't have been horrible.
Definitely going to read that. I bought the hardcover for really cheap at a book inventory sale last year but I think I'll cop the mass market paperback since that is my preferred reading format

@King_Kamala61 How many books have you read so far? My goal was 24 for the year--now I'm at 39 & just kinda reading for fun.

I'm somewhat of a fast reader but more than that, I try to stay in my lane for the most part with stuff I know I'll enjoy aside from a risky pick or two. That makes it a little easier to finish.

Having a Nook/Boox/Phone also makes it easier accessibility wise. I'm always "stealing" sum minutes on the go. It can be in the whip, at the fam's house, wherever. Reading like 20-25 mins before bed and when I wake up is another lil chest code.

And then lastly, common sense obv, but reading off screen time. I have my shows I like to keep up with but once I'm caught up, I try not to do as much mindless binge watching as opposed to reading instead.

I have Strange Weather by him that have 4 short novellas, but it's on the byke burner. I got hit with an ad for King Sorrow and read a blurb about it & it seemed interesting enough. I've heard mostly good things about him as well though too.

I wish he wrote a story for The End Of The World As We Know It, but I guess he was finishing up King Sorrow during that time.
I forgot I have his other novels on my Kindle. I think Horns and Heart Shaped Box

Was a meager 12. I paint and create so books can only get my time at night before bed, but sometimes my creative drive cuts into my reading. The 6 books I've read so far have been dense in size : Red Rising Saga to be exact

Shyt, ain't nothing wrong with that if you're on the creative wave too. Sometimes, I gotta put my reading on hold for days (or a week) to pour all my attention into the book I'm working on. I'd just say find you some shorter stores, some pallette cleansers, to fit inbetween your more dense reads while still gettin' ya 🎨🫟 on. I'll read a 700-1100 King joint one week but then the next, I'll go lighter with a 200-300 pg Sci-fi or Thriller 📖 the next.

Shyt, it just hit me now that you've said something that Joe doesn't have a story in The End of The World... :russ:

Would've been a nice lil rollout that he could worked into it with a "King Sorrow" coming soon somewhere in there :ehh:

You reas any stories from The End of The World.... Yet? Been hearing mixed reviews so far.

Only read the introduction and the first story. I stopped reading the first story half way through to look up the author and when I saw that it's the writer behind the show You then it all made sense lol I could see Joe in that story.

Good read. Alot of different authors put their own spin on what happened after the world was wiped out.. almost done

There is a seller on eBay that is selling a bunch of books from Holloway House. HH published a bunch of books from black authors way back in the day.

I copped a few of the Iceman books

Some of the authors in this are in the sale

Pulled up on this particular author at one of the book festivals I went to this year. This was her debut; she has plenty others by now, I believe. This was a solid first time offering though--a quiet, little psychological slow burn. She was doing too much with the POV switching & timeline jumping at some points, but overall, I stay engaged.
