it just depends. I can listen to something relased this year then bump some Nas, Too $hort, Ice Cube, BIG, Wu, 3-6, Common, Juve, Mobb Deep, Kast, Snoop, or 2 Live Crew right after and not feel like i'm listening too :flabbynsick: hippity hop.

I feel like i might be a different breed than these other young nikkas though.

Like the 80s there are different types of good music for me.

Someone like 2 Chainz might have (had before his album) banging beats, charisma, said funny things overall just retard/funny music. Same goes for Gucci Mane.

Which someone like Jay-z or Nas couldn't do so for them we expect flow, bars etc. From Pac we might not expect highly technical shyt like Eminem cause he got other factors in his music. Wayne had punchlines and flows, we might've not expected amazing concepts but his music could still be as good as Lupe's creative concepts.

From Future we expect melody, realness, well written hooks and banging beats.
While Eminem might not have those melodies, banging beats, realness or hooks, he might have production tailor made for a "super lyrical" MC, he might have comedy, super technical verses etc..

I was listening to hip-hop at a young age (dad and older cousins listened to it). So most shyt from 97 on, I remember it very well.

Yeah, I'm 29 :ahh:

I could understand the lyrics being dated, but when it comes to the production do you feel it's dated too. :yeshrug:

how can lyrics be dated???

beats can easily be dated...but outside of talkin about clothing brands that dont exist anymore how can lyrics be dated???

I guess it depend on the vibe of it. I look at lyricism as its own art form and production as its on art form. Some shyt has great lyrics and production that I can't get into and some has great production but the flows( mostly) and lyrics seem out of date. And I go into listening to it expecting good old school sounds and flows, I'm 24 btw

I could listen to a track with a good beat but :trash: lyrics but not the other way round.

I'm 23 and I love 90's albums/the sound. :blessed:

What i find is that back in the 90's it was bout the flow, the story and u threw in the beats depending on what area u was from

the east coast had that gritty sound to it
and the west had their g-funk

nowadays if a song got a bumpin' beat, its gonna be the hottest thing on the radio, thats why with alot of these 'trap' songs, half the song makes no sense to most people (white folk) yet the beat is off the chain

but i f*cks wit the 90's heavy cause it's got some of the realest music to this day

:ahh:
