Just for fun. They really love the game, and the fans and the attention. Contracts are guaranteed, so even if they do get hurt they wont lose money. And they usually only play in one or two games as a guest of the team organizer to come floss. They dont play the whole summer session. Jabari Parker and Chris Copeland played this year in Chicago.
Hmmm don't call me a genius but something tells me there is a clause in these contracts that will void it, if a player is injured in a non team accident.

Nah, there are certain things they cant do, that will void the contract. Motorcycles, skydiving, other activities deemed extreme, but playing the sport they're paid to play isnt one of them. They just have to wait until July 1st. I might be wrong on the date tho

NBA Teams discourage it for that very reason, but they can't outright tell you not to because the NBA sanctions leagues like Drew league, Dyckman, Rucker, HiTS. The NBA sponsors some of these leagues.

Correct. 7/1 is the day they're eligible.

Some of these players might be coming through Dyckman this week

no hate.
Why do NBA players participate in these leagues? marketing? it's not for the competition
the consequences of an injury is too high for me to be able to play in these type of games, let alone go hard like some of these dudes
to sh!t on nikkas

Uncertain grounds
jennings play style = street legend. thats obvious

as said, players do it all the time. lebron played in the drew league too i think, durant played at the rucker. theyre probably the better runs around in the summer.

theres some value to it. sometimes just working out and taking jumpers can only go so far, and playing in these leagues can help players get some aggressiveness in their game back if they have been getting too passive

When was the last time a NBA standout got seriously hurt playing in one of these summer games?

i still don't get that " why risk injury? " line of thinking like dozens of these NBA cats get hurt every year at these summer games

NBA Teams are control freaks.

In their minds, they'd feel better if you got hurt under their watch as opposed to getting hurt somewhere else

There must be a few coaches and GMs who aren't against it or slightly encourage it though in moderation.
Some aren't, but like MegaTron Bomb said earlier, who really gets hurt in these competitions?

Drew league is indoors, in the time that I've gone to watch streetball, I can't remember the last time someone got seriously hurt during the game, and that's outside.

EDIT: and outdoor leagues are 2 20 minute halves running clock except for the last 5 minutes. The energy you're expending during games is not the same as a game with no running clock
