NBA contracts and nfl contracts aren’t that dissimilar IMO.

The difference is the roster size. You can’t compare the 53rd guy on an nfl roster to the 10th or 11th guy on an NBA roster.

I think the nflpa should introduce more player options to contract language soon. They’ve already started using no-trade clauses.

I mean I ain't mad that NFL nikkaz get :to: when looking at NBA nikkaz. NFL cats do deserve more, but you gotta fight for it. And unfortunately, most are not and/or don't have the desire to do so.
They have the DESIRE to. They just arent willing to sacrifice because their careers are short as fukk as is. Its reasonabl .

the owners know what they are doing. Increasing the minimum salary which the majority of players make was genius in the last CBA. Of course the voting majority are gonna vote for that and the owners knew this.

that's why you gotta have a union truly united and dedicated to the cause. NBA fought for the right for bums to be able to have guaranteed deals. Are most NFL players willing to do that, NO.

The worst part about it is that they likely could have gotten the deal blocked had the 500 dudes who sat out actually decided to vote. Problem is, they would have gotten fukked bad over as the government shutdown happened soon after. So it was kind of a good thing that they did get it passed.

i think he's conflating "guaranteed" with job security

like sure, a lot of role players could get cut ... but they still getting paid until their contract is fulfilled ... that is a guaranteed contract

dudes just be arguing different points before defining what they are talking about lol

I think what may have caused his confusion was the talk last season of players not getting their money if teams didn't play enough games if the season got cancelled. Most players apparently don't get paid until the later part of the season except for a few Klutch clients and maybe a few others who had it stipulated in their contracts that they get paid most of their money somewhere early in the season.

There was a serious possibility of the owners not paying out the contracts of most of the players in the league for that year so in that sense I guess the guaranteed contracts weren't fully 'guaranteed' afterall.

Bet B Marsh wishes he had thought to make the point that way now haha. He was right about his larger point though, that 2020 was a sign of attitudes changing in the NFL compared to 2016.

basically the teams 12-17th type of players. those guys 1-12 generally have fully guaranteed deals. I honestly assumed they all travelled in the same circles and this was common knowledge amongst the various pro athletes. I thought that most of the NFL players knew that they were getting the shortest end of the stick. It seems to me he thinks otherwise.
Your be surprised at the information you think ppl should know but don’t

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
The only reason why NFL contracts aren't guaranteed is the salary cap which was a response to free agency.

Before free agency, teams had complete control of their players and could basically low ball them. Once they were allowed to leave, the owners made sure they could restrict how much they could move with shyt like the franchise tag/tenders/restricted free agency, and the salary cap.

And you cant really blame the NFLPA, becasue most players dont want a work stoppage. They cant afford it.

The salary cap should be raised, players should get paid more, but since the average shelf life of a nfl player is so low, I dont think it will ever happen.
