Money grab? This isn't costing the Jets anything. Did you evaluate the actual trade?

Yeah they saved about 3 mill on the deal vs Harvins contract but Marshall is overvalued imo. He's not worth 7 million this season. He couldve gone to a contender for less money and restructure

He's certaintly worth that. I don't get the money grab angle for $7 million with a team with tons of cap space

True I just don't understand why he wouldn't try to get traded to a contender and possibly take less money but it's out of his control...

Marshall is a high end possession recever with red zone capability. The team is paying him about as much as Colston or Decker. His contributions on and off the ball are worth about the same as a player like Colston to a team like NYJ. Moreover he serves as a conduit for cutting Harvin and inspiring Mac to draft a speedster as replacement, which is a more efficient use of resources than is keeping Harvin at 10 mill+. Overall Marshall is worth his price tag insofar as contribution, fit and resource allocation are concerned.

None of what you're saying makes sense.

Apparently the Ravens and NE were in talks, and he said he wanted to continue to play for Trestman/Ravens so it's surprising to me that deal didn't get done. So it seemed like it might have been an issue of money but Ravens were never going to get him if some team was willing to overpay hence the money grab.

came down to this:

"Ozzie Newsome doesn't like to give up high draft picks, could be concerned about Marshall's history of off-field problems and likely wouldn't want to pay the large contract Marshall is seeking"

:ohlawd: would've been interesting to see though

There were better receivers available, without having to make a trade for a guy who was going to be released anyways. The move is meh to me, but hey the fans know best since they put up a billboard.

And if Geno is your QB, that is the end all be all unfortunately.

If Marshall was released, he's not signing with us. Let's be real. We're not exactly a desirable organization to play for right now. And if we had given Cobb Santonio Holmes money and then some you woulda bytched about that too because you hate Geno.

Even if we lucked out and drafted Winston, Geno better be the one playing. Hell, say we draft a QB next year, they should sit whoever they draft until this team is ready to put said QB in a position to succeed. Trading a 5th for Marshall helps in that regard. You can't comprehend the idea of actually trying to upgrade the other 52 spots on the team because you hate the QB.

I like upgrading via the draft-

Marshall is a decent stopgap I guess, but I really, really hope we dont go all in again. This is still a work in progress from the ground up. It just eerily reminds me of the Plaxico move.

So do I, which makes last year's travesty that much worse.

You have to look at it the way you looked at the Chris Ivory trade. He was in essence our 4th rounder a couple of years ago and he's been good.

There wasn't a 5th rounder that was gonna be as good as Brandon Marshall. That doesn't mean they've abandoned plans of using the draft to get talent or attempt to find gems off the scrap heap. That's to be determined, but this team also has money. A LOT of money, money we have to use. Now that we have upgraded at WR, we can use money to address other major glaring needs. This is nothing like signing a guy fresh out of the bing

Geno has a rag arm? I've seen him flick a ball 60 yards like nothing. You have no idea what you're talking about
his ball hangs in the air

guys with strong arms are guys like kaep, cutler, flacco etc

genos arm is average at best

I know we have money, which is why I would have preferred overpaying for someone like Cobb, Smith or Maclin. It just kind of seems like a weird move. And Ivory was young...Marshall isnt.
