Like I've said Rosetta Stone is cool for helping to build up vocab but if you really want to learn you got to practice with people that know the language. Set yo ass up a profile on pof you can easily find a chick to skype with who is willing to help

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
Anybody have a heads up on which website to get an application for a tourist Visa? I tried googling and got confused. If you have to apply in person that might be a problem for me seeing as I am deployed.

@dc007 @Primetime21 @Malta

@dc007 already covered it -

I really hate what happened to Livemocha.com, it was probably the best language resource on the web until Rosetta Stone bought it. You could Skype with people from other countries that would teach you their language if you would help them with their English.

I'm forever grateful for you putting me onto livemocha when it was hot. I still have language partners that I continue to talk to today even with that site having gone to shyt.

Yeah that site was absolute GOLD a year and a half ago, I was going try Chinese until Rosetta came through and fukked it all up.

This site is supposedly similar to how Livemocha was

How is your Portuguese @Malta ?

Is the language hard?

It was okay years ago and I could get around, now it's pretty much :ld: My wife speaks it (and Spanish) fluently but we only practice sporadically.

Just practice everyday, if I were going back to Brazil I'd be spending at least an hour a day speaking nothing but Portuguese and I'd make sure to go to places I know Brazilians are and talk to them. Find a song in Portuguese that you like and listen to it, read the lyrics and focus on how they pronounce the words.

It was more difficult to get than Spanish, all them words with "X" in them can be :whoa:

I got some Brazilian Portuguese ebooks, the best resources on grammer, vocabulary, etc....PM me...all i ask is a rep for em

I use italki.com....its cool for exchanging languages but I usually use it for a professional teacher to talk to and help me. Theres also a site im subscribed to that I can't recommend enough called semantica-portuguese.com. For $12 bucks a month, u get over 100 videos of Brazilian Portuguese dialogue on everyday situations with on/off subtitles. These videos along with living in Brazil really helped me tune my ear to comprehending what they were saying to me. U can cancel at any time.

if u dont want to pay I also recommend this site I've used in the past with great videos

Don't spend money on Rosetta Stone, I wouldn't even use it for free. :camby:

Good grammer book +watching videos with real life dialogue + talking to a Brazilian = :jawalrus: getting to Brazil with a headstart

I missed out on most thus thread:snoop: (I'll read it later) but as far as comparing Salvador and Rio, I prefer Salvador.

Probably because I spent more time there and went more places :manny:

Have you used these? If so can you give a review?
i own those books, and like all language instruction, you get out what you put in. but they won't teach you to learn a language, they'll lay a basic foundation at best

dude who writes that blog is full of shyt and knows nothing of native language acquisition

that benny lewis guy is a snake oil salesman. learning a foreign language takes time, patience, intelligence, and perceptiveness, and that's without the ability to immerse yourself.

i'm second language learner and NAFSA/TESOL member, learning a new language is not easy and amazon/websites cant save you

I don't know if he a snake oil salesman at least in that article but it works though at least for him. Most people don't put in the time and then will say stuff don't work. I also have to disagree about Tim Ferriss being full of shyt cause Ive used things from his books to success so I can co sign that but don't want to derail this thread with that either. Just think its a case by case basis and depending on your level of success with something influencing how you look at someone's word.
