I think this is more "newsworthy" for some folks for how he died though. It's sort of like with prince when it's unexpected and due to other things besides natural causes.

Maya Angelou was old and live to an old age and died because she was 86 years old. It's a bit more shocking to hear someone committed suicide. She was born is fukking 1928.

Not sure about writing long posts about it but it's understandable why the reaction is different.

I'm only half surprised. Whenever I watch his shows I always get a depressing vibe from him. Like somethings 'off'. I'm not a psychiatrist though.

Suicide at 61 is unusual though. It's usually young adults and teens who do that.

THIS IS A LIE. Being a white male is a billable risk factor.

• White males accounted for 7 of 10 suicides in 2016.
• The rate of suicide is highest in middle age — white men in particular.

I believe he has a progressive debilibating brain disease. He would eventually become a vegetable the longer he was alive.

The spate of suicides tells me that many of us, including those whose affluence and prestige would seem to make such torment distant, suffer from an inescapable sadness that only death can free them of. I attribute this to the state of the Western world and its recent embrace of what was previously thought to be an evil that civilized society was fighting to rid itself of. I do not believe the ascendancy of Trump and the increasing hold fascism has gained on our society can be divorced from a discussion of why depression among even the dominant class is rising. Only so long you can turn a blind eye to the horror that stands before you. I didn't watch Bourdain's show that often, but I do know that he often spoke up about issues in a way that very few celebrities do, exhibiting an honesty which spoke to a decent and kind human spirit that appeared sincere. We are in the midst of the greatest evil we have ever personally witnessed in our lifetimes, and far too many supposedly good people remain silent as it continues to grow, possibly because they believe it will eventually pass without being aggressively confronted. It won't. RIP

BTW I think dude is a bit of an a$$hole for committing suicide. At least when his daughter is 10 years old.

If you're a father, how can you imagine and not care that if you commit suicide, your 10 year old daughter will have to be woken up and told daddy killed himself. Why would you do that to your own kid?

Wow. This is shocking. He filmed an episode of Parts Unknown back in 2012 in my city and showed alot of love.
