SNAP would automatically be funded by the government once it reopens, it's already included in the bill, along with the program's new work requirements.
I agree with you, but I think unfortunately, while fighting to protect the healthcare subsidies is important, food is just as important, if not more so, by quite a large margin, since a functioning human being needs food to survive.
Food Banks and pantries only go so far, you can't allow millions of people to stress whether they're going to have food to eat or not, and with all the back and forth wishy-washy shyt with Trump/SNAP benefits lately makes it where you can't continue to let people suffer in Trump's hands.
Something has to give, and Trump and the GOP clearly have no intentions of budging, as they're adamant about letting this shyt go on for months if need be, so having the shutdown to continue into next year isn't feasible.
Once the government opens up, SNAP will be funded and people will no longer have to anxiously sit around wondering if they're going to eat or not. If this is real and it goes through, then the Dems made a moral decision to save people from starving, even tho it will hurt certain people's healthcare. Something had to be done to end the suffering millions are going through at the hands of Trump and his administration.
Yes, the base will be disappointed, but shouldn't be too hard on them either, because it was a moral decision, you didn't cave for a BS reason but a legitimate one.
