I was never high on Riley because his defenses are awful. He won’t have better teams at USC.

To be fair, shouldn't we start judging coaches around year 3 when most of the team are their recruits (same thing for Deion).

um no he brought caleb williams , mario williams and a bunch of other transfers. Most of the core of the team is his

He was ass this year, and their recruiting under him has been surprisingly underwhelming. But it's only his second year there.

We'll see by 2025 if this was a bad hire or not.

Transfer portal has made that runway shorter

It has had an effect but not an accurate one. Portal can boost a team for a year if done correctly and a coach hits on it. But it's hard to really do that year after year at a high level. The base level of recruiting HS players is needed to build an annual contender.

I mean I don't care much for USC one way or the other, and really dislike Lincoln, so I'd love to see him fail. But I'm not going to jump to conclusions yet. So far, it's not looking too promising. I think his biggest issue is the lack of support from the university to buy the players he needs to win at a high level. Especially now they're going to be in the B1G.

USC is top 10 in talent composite ahead of Michigan, Florida State, Washington, Penn State, Louisville, etc. it’s the coaching.
