If you’ve been paying attention over the last 5-10 years you would’ve heard players openly discuss how they protect their numbers for future contractual purposes. This is a step in the right direction to combat some of those tendencies that have crept into the game.

just considering how particular metrics within certain jobs can produce unnatural and or counterproductive conduct this post makes sense

A lot of fans had an issue with players protecting their numbers. This helps break some of those tendencies. At the very least we're going to see more opportunities of players making long distance shots. That can't be a bad thing.
