I see it as more of a salary dump than that. They didn’t want to pay Quickley 100+ and RJ was never going to fit. They have flexibility in the offseason if they choose to.
Yeah they need to see how OG is with the team first before signing him long term and think about who they can potentially sign in offseason. They are one more salary dump trade away from getting a Max contract guy in offseason if they want to.

That's the thing.

We all know NY isn't landing a star simply because ownership and management tends to self sabotage themselves. Donovan Mitchell is the only hope/possibility but even then he may return to Cleveland or see what other offers are out there.

Just like the Knicks ownership and management before acquiring Brunson, settled and gave the keys to Randle being the guy for damn near 3-4 years after passing up the opportunity of KD and Kyrie who both originally wanted to be a Knick or at least was open to giving NY an interview but ownership and management was on the fence cause of KD health (understandable) at the time but even then still missed out.

They're gonna wind up overpaying OG just to keep him because his value has already been exaggerated so there's gonna be teams in the off-season with their own set of offers.

No they didn't. And they said as much.

Ironically their on court success has been lacking since.

You cant just make shyt up to shyt on the Knicks.

Originally they both wanted to play in NY but for Knicks, not the Nets. Dolan is the reason that didn't happen.

I remember reading up on it that KD and Kyrie were both open to giving the Knicks an interview but the front office responded with lukewarm hesitancy due to Durant being injured/recovering at the time and felt Randle was the way to go.

Bro that was the FO trying to save face, there were so many stories around what happened, you might as well just choose to believe what you want.

First the story was KD didn’t care and he left it to Kyrie who wanted the Nets because he grew up a Nets fan and both didn’t want to deal with the Knicks based on their history.

Then it turned to the Knicks didn’t get Zion so KD/Kyrie liked the Nets because they felt the kids could help them as roleplayers and be traded for the third star (Harden)

Then the story was the Knicks FO didn’t want Kyrie to be the second guy with KD. They thought he was a reckless recluse. When KD said it had to be him and Kyrie they hesitated and the Nets jumped in.

Personally I think the version that KD wanted a big three and the Nets were better positioned to do it. He was leaving the Warriors and wanted a chip and on the low while we all mock the Nets now if Covid didn’t happen and Kyrie refused to get vaccinated, Kyrie/Harden/KD might have won a championship.

Knicks will help the Cavs fleece another team for Mitchell.

If there was trade to be made with Cavs, would've already been done

Mitchell has 1 more year after this one doesn't he? I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns with Cleveland TBH; they're playing a lot better than most thought without Garland and Mobley -- Allen has stepped up in a big way

Knicks are way better off cause of this trade :yeshrug:

Way more balance on both ends of da floor.

Yall need to stop having personal attachments to players and think about what makes sense from a basketball perspective.

RJ and IQ is also good for da raptors because they needed an spark offensively and to bring some excitement to a team that was almost dead in da water.

Good trade for both teams

s

No one got robbed in this trade
You have no idea what you just inherited with RJ.
Its a good trade for both teams, but the Knicks come out of this with the better roster and more flexibility.

RJ aint livin up to that contract and IQ wants 100m...
