There's a lot of recording studios in LA, so a lot of artist will be around/hang out with gang bangers just because of the city they're in, you're just gonna have them as associates. Even Frank Ocean has Crip nikkas that run with him, Iggy was hanging around a bunch of Bloods just because she was down with YG, it's just the nature of the beast being around LA.

difference is, most artist just realize the gang members are there for protection while you're in LA, so you have to deal with them in some form or another. That's the elements there. Maybe back in the days when the big labels revolved around 5-7 big recording studios you would have some unsavory characters hanging around but now because of technology recording studios are literally everywhere in LA.
