this actually IS freedom of speech..

like the one cat said- y'all too busy hating on Ross.. had this happened to Jay-Z, y'all would all be in here crying about how sensitive the media is about rap..

:pachaha: @ me hating on Ross or caping for Jay-Z

:childplease:

Explain how Ross' freedoms were violated here...The constitution doesn't protect his right to get paid millions by Reebok...

I think those ppl mean that HIPHOP didnt protest Em, in fact WE PROTECTED him when all those ppl wanted his head. Now fast forward to 2013 and Ems fans of all ppl are happy about another rapper losing paper over a controversial line in a song. Thats the part that im shaking my head at.

Ross is a very unlikeable guy and made a lot of enemies, so of course people are gonna be happy about him losing. :yeshrug: Add to the fact he was unable or unwilling to give a proper explanation ... :yeshrug:

This isn't about freedom of speech..

They can still make songs about whatever they want.. They just don't have the luxury of doing so while enjoying profitable relationships with huge American corporations (which some would argue isn't hip hop anyway)

It is tho because these days you need those endorsements to pull in money since records sales are at an alltime low for hiphop and ppl are not going to shows like they used to. I mean if these special interest groups really wanted to they could go through any rappers discography and find questionable shyt to protest about. Now rappers have to censor themselves for fear a soccer mom may get a hold of a song through her teenage son and spark a protest over a lyric she doesnt even understand? Its a way for outsiders to patrol our music genre, i cant believe yall dont see this

I agree. it was probably in his contract that they could dump him if they didn't like how he was reppin the company

Reebok ain't an American Corp though. it was originally from the UK, and now it's owned by Adidas (Germany)

We all know by now who doesnt like Ross. But on the flipside there are also MANY ppl who do like the brother and they understand that that line is not about rape. Im just not down with this Chris Brown like witchhunt yall trying to pull on ol boy. Yea he aint perfect but yall have let a lot worse slide by your ear without saying anything. I wouldnt apologize either if a bunch of outsiders were misinterpreting my words just to fuel their hate for me.

I agree 100% with everything you said except for the bolded...

It's not a freedom of speech issue... AT ALL...It just isn't.. The only way that it can be is if you change the legal definition to fit your argument....

:snoop:

Is it sh1tty, corny, obnoxious and unfair?
Yes.. Yes...Yes and Yes...

But his rights were not violated...He just got cock blocked by the free market...

If anything this is a great example of free speech being exercized.. The feminists used their free speech rights to create petitions to put pressure on a corporation that was parterned with Ross...

Rappers only have to censor themselves if they want to get bread with corporate America..But if you just want to release art then you are still free to say what you want without government intervention...

Im not dumb. I know by the LAW OF THE LAND Reebok can fire Ross over this. Im simply referring to the implications this has for hiphop. Hiphop can be censored now by ppl who dont even listen to the genre. nikkas applauding this shyt when they dont realize how bad of a precedence this has set....

I'm not calling you dumb.. But you are consistently saying things in here that aren't accurate or factual...

1st off.. Hip hop has ALWAYS been censored by ppl who don't listen to the genre

2nd

This situation with Ross isn't a precendent..The same exact thing happened to Ludacris 10 years ago...

i don't know.. maybe because people protested at Reebok because of what he said..

Yknow..his freedom to say so.. just like its anyone freedom to.. whether it be a comedian, a film producer expressing himself, or.. hold on.. a rapper..

He didn't lose his job over endorsement because of his actions.. it was over his words.. why are you asking dumb questions, man..? like I said, let this had been anyone else, y'all cats would be in here throwing fits left & right..
