No point in Nike signing Steph, he's near the end....especially since UA is going to be distributing Curry brand for the next 12 months or so.

But at this point Steph is a important brand to basketball and I'm sure every company wants to be associated with him even if he's almost done.

I was at the Nike store by Barclays Center the other day and I'm looking at some running sneakers.

I saw a pair of running sneakers that cost $280. I didn't see a basketball sneaker there that topped that price. On top of that, the display kinda put the hooping sneakers off to the side so when you walk in, the first thing you see are running based shoes. The shoes that are lighter are more popular now. I'm sure people still rock basketball sneakers every once in a while, but I notice that people actually use them primarily for what they're designed for and that's performance.

I understand this but how did NB take over the world like that? I feel like the switch happened overnight.

0% chance Nike does this. Chinese money is better.

Nike won’t be able to do anything with him for well over a year, who knows if UA and curry jointly own that logo and we don’t know what commitments curry and the brand have made for the 1-2 years (like future appearances).

Meanwhile a Chinese brand (and Chinese IP “laws”) could care less about the terms of his deal ending. They can push something out in by the end of the season that’s Chinese only and still eat.

It’s not like curry and UA do a clean break starting today. This thing will take time. If anything Nike can market him for “free” since he wears their jersey and shorts already so now they can go out of their way to show him (at least from the knees up) in promos.
