Trying to think back on all the things we read in HS for English classes, all I can remember right now is one Greek myths class, Catcher in the Rye, Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Crucible, and Malcolm's autobiography.I couldn't stand assigned reading in those days.

I dont know the deal now with how things work in PG, but they deliberately under educated us in that county. Dude even the AP History class was some bs, that shiit pissed me off. Shiit wasn't even remotely challenging.
it's still like that in some schools. i'd say it varies from class to class even. but there has at least been an effort to change. it's not near ideal or even productive all the time, but there's been improvement

my parents moved to mo county solely for the schools. even where they live has jumped up incredibly in property values from the time they moved.
the great gastby was wild boring to me too. all the movie renditions are equally or more boring.Some more titles are slowly coming back to me now and I remember finding just about all of them to be a major chore.
Book I remember branding as a huge pile of doodoo was the Great Gatsby and I remember being shocked a movie was made out of it.
Antigone and The Crucible were the only things I considered good when I graduated
