in case no one posted it, the reason he started drownin apparently was because the water was 'low' enough to where you could walk through it. this is why his arms were splashing how they were at first, and someone said he was walking or whatever. but, near the middle, there is a large drop, and when he got to that point, he obviously would've needed actual swimming skills, so he was in trouble at that point. this is why it's important to think before acting, especially if your life could be at stake.

Muscle mass is less buoyant that body fat. This is why it's hard to keep our legs afloat. Judging from his physique, I believe he would have a better chance of he tried to roll over on his back.
