What I mean by this is if you didn't walk for several months, your body is not going to have the endurance for it.

Unless you are really poor growing up or just don't have a pool in your town, I don't get how people don't learn how to swim. I learned how to swim when I was five years old at the public pool. Been swimming for years, took that knowledge and taught my nephews how to swim.
