Unless you are really poor growing up or just don't have a pool in your town, I don't get how people don't learn how to swim. I learned how to swim when I was five years old at the public pool. Been swimming for years, took that knowledge and taught my nephews how to swim.

Same...but then again I had a parent that was on the swim team in high school and another who was in the Navy...there was no way I wasn't going to learn how to swim

Pro tip to the non swimmers though.
if you are in a pool or small lake and get tired flip over to your back and just kick your way to the end. People forget that your arms ain't shyt compared to your legs, strength wise. And swimming is 90% legs and core and 10% arms.

of course his friends were pieces of shyt, but that’s not the point of what Im saying. I’ve been in communities where the swimming park was packed with only black people and a large
Majority of the knew how to swim, I’m in Los Angeles. And believe when a black human know how to swim it’s some of the most beautiful acrobatic shyt you will ever see. Young kids flipping off high board like it’s nothing, swimming with speed an grace. At this stage there is no excuse not teach you kid to swim. In fact, there no excuse for you not to know how swim. It so easy to learn, it’s like riding a bike. Only bytch ass fear stops anyone from learning.

Breh I think Californians swim more than most ppl in landlocked states. Even in the poorest parts, people be out swimming. I wonder if that can be proven with stats

Yeah you right. Aint no way you wasn't learning. :mjlol:

Yeah there are a lot of tricks out there for swimming. I remember we did a bet to swim to the end of the pier. Drinking doing a dumb bet.

Got out there and was tired trying to swim back. My homie was like don't do nothing and let the waves carry you back. :francis:

If you don't have someone to teach you then you won't learn. It's that simple. I was never interested in swimming when I was young so I didn't ask my parents to sign me up for lessons.

Bury a car, g?
Only thing big breh could do is live a better life for his lil bro. I can’t imagine how he’s feeling. I only have one lil brother, I’d be devastated and probably need a mental hospital

100% true. If you are in a big enough body but close to shore...the water wants to hit the beach. We had to tell that to one of my homies when we went to Bali.

"Just chill...you make it worse trying to fight the waves."

1) RIP to breh. Sad to see somebody throw their life away. :pacspit: to all them nikkas in the video that encouraged him and/or said they'd save him.

2) The situation coulda been avoided but is still a waste of life. Couldn't be me though. I'd have to have a nikka swimming with me, one on the island, and a boat or bouy on standby.:hubie:

3) I live in Florida. I got brehs at work that are 20+ years old but still can't swim and there are free pools everywhere but they won't take lessons. Live on what is a slow-sinking peninsula but don't learn to swim brehs.

4) Body types do play a role in swimming. Anyone that discounts this is on some other shyt. Last time I got in a pool I was on some :whoo: shyt cause I had put on hella weight (all muscle) but hadn't really swam since I was like 70 pounds lighter. shyt was definitely a wake-up call:francis:. I was in the best shape of my life and would barely pass a basic swim test. Even treading water at that weight was hard, and I could not float in non-saltwater:snoop:. I grew up with backyard pool and was barely be able to swim, brehs :comeon:.

tl;dr: Coli brehs, please be safe around the damn water. And if you live by some, make sure your ass can swim.

^This.

@BlackWillieNelson You could always buy a cheap-ass water testing kit and see if they are actually chlorinating the water properly. Don't want too much or too little.

Or make a friend that has a pool. :yeshrug:

there are some misinformed takes in here and I seen in other swimming threads pertaining to blacks. I grew up poor on a peninsula on the coast where all the water in my area let out in the Atlantic. long story short, the blacks in our area came in and bought the land that was on the high ground because this was right around the end of slavery and we had to farm to live. coming up to my time, whites bought all the waterfront property up. we were forbidden to go to the water because it was a lot of water for one and a lot of drownings. we still snuck there but never got in deep.

one time my brother took me and my cousin to the water and my mom saw our pants legs were wet and my brother turned around and started hauling ass because he knew what was coming. mom threw a knife at him that had he missed a half step wouldve split him in half. we still joke about this today because it was a funny story...but we never learned how to swim growing up. I had to take classes once I was over 30. the part that was not funny is that my parents were very fearful of water because an uncle of ours went swimming with some white boys a couple of miles from our house and they let him drown. still a question on what happened and to whether it was intentional (racism) or not. so after I was an adult I could understand where they were coming from.
