What differentiates the two Pelham's? It's funny...this kid I grew up with in Bed Stuy moved to Roosevelt for HS. He used to always talk about how run down it was out there and he didn't exactly grow up in the best neighborhood.

Pelham Parkway is just another part of the BX, down the road from Fordham

they do have houses and park out there, but I can't vouch for any public schools around there, would probably wanna send the kids to private school

as far as Pelham (Westchester) is concerned its basically in between Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle geographically and for all the other stuff we're talking about

You better off staying in BK or queens.. I’m in BK.. personally I wouldn’t fukk with LI just off the strength of the high ass property tax and I make well over 200k a year.. You said you in flatlands did you inquire about the new homes going up right there by the gateway Mall?

Before we moved out to Flatlands, we actually started by looking at property out by Gateway. The smell was terrible though. Really brings down the quality of life. I do enjoy that new Shirley Chisolm park though. The property taxes on LI is definitely something we've spoken about. Wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker however. We've actually looked at a few around the neighborhood and Mill Basin/Marine Park. Just having a detached house with a driveway would make a world of difference. I guess the hangup is whatever we're likely to find here in Brooklyn will likely have way less space than something equivalent on Long Island.

I would advise against it. You are isolated on an island and weather is getting worse. There is extreme racism especially in Suffolk county, Nassau too.

there is EXTREME poverty and drug use in the lower income parts of LI and gang violence. Not to mention the loads of illegals that form gangs out there that work the farms. Add in all the biker gangs and cops that live out there. LI ain’t a good bet for raising a black family.

you have a better chance at peace and less racism in NJ. Also NJ has by far better school systems than LI.

Appreciate the advice. I've about the gangs, in particular MS-13.

It’s really y’all lol

Queens nikkas are irrelevant and many Harlemites got Bronx ties and vice versa. Staten Island catch it from everybody they humble.

It’s always the Brooklyn nikkas :dead:

My wife and I have been looking into transition from Brooklyn out onto Long Island, preferably Nassau County. We have two little boys( 2 and 5 years old) as well. Can anybody suggest decent, safe, diverse towns? I was thinking about Valley Stream. But that incident with the racist cac harassing that Black woman gave me pause.

Why Long Island?

Westchester County is way better

I guess due to proximity, I'm much more familiar with and accustomed to traveling to LI. Nothing against Westchester. I went out to some Riverwalk they had out in Tarrytown and I liked the scene. But pretty much all my NYC fam lived in BK or Qnz so I never really much of a reason to head to the BX and Westchester. Harlem was as far as I'd usually travel.

I mean if you're willing to go to Long Island which is expensive, you got White Plains, Mount Vernon, Yonkers, etc right there that is a similar price

The benefit is that Westchester is a more direct line to Manhattan with subways and Metro North going straight to Manhattan for fun. Plus there's a better concentration of Black people in that area. And cheaper ways to have fun with all the parks, outdoor activities, and water ways. Plus no fear of floods because its at a higher elevation

Not saying its the best place in the world, but its something you can look at

Plus the traffic on Long Island highways are unbearable

Interesting...Ive heard worse things about Staten Island. Any particular reason or neighborhoods you recommend?

i would stick to anything north shore, if you work in the city or closer to ferry etc. not a bad place to start / raise a family

Are you familiar with any particular towns In Jersey? My cousin used to live out in East Orange and I definitely felt that hood vibe the times I'd visit him.
Bloomfield, NJ is a nice mixed area with a short commute to Manhattan by NJ Transit. Pockets of Newark are cool. West Orange as previously mentioned is also cool. South Orange is probably the most ideal as far as diversity, commute and space but it’s expensive as sh*t.

I have a lot of family who dipped out to LI and seem to enjoy it. Gotta find out the exact towns.
