Yeah it's only a win if they capitalize on it.

Like getting the cosign from someone like Beyonce who people look up to is basically taken as "This person is going to carry on that tradition", not get on the same level as everyone else.

I think them getting that title at 16 before they themselves even knew who they were was way too early. way too much responsibility as a teenager.

I think HER or Normani would've been more mature to handle it at the time imo as they actually had years of industry experience already.
It goes beyond this to be honest

Another big issue, since you brought up Normani, is Chloe and Normani will always fail to their expectations and it's partly not their fault. People keep trying to crown the next big thing and that ain't really how shyt works anymore

Because they have these lofty expectations fans and the labels are putting all this grandiose shyt on their shoulders that they can't handle the weight of

There's a lot of unaddressed issues regarding the social media age and how fast we run through cycles without awareness. People don't realize how comparisons kill these artists. The windows of comparison are getting smaller and smaller and it's a net negative for the parties being compared.

When Beyonce was getting compared to Tina Turner Tina was already what? In her 60s? There's a whole gap of mysticism attached to a comparison like that. Compare that to Chloe and Normani being pushed as new Beyonce's. Beyonce is still relevant, still extremely active. That leaves no mystique for the newer artists because we can see all the ways you'll never be like Beyonce right in front of us, and now you're fukked:manny:

And this is not just a music issue, I'm seeing it in movies and television too. Latching onto the past to try to ride the coattails of nostalgia into superstardom, and once that quick nostalgia buzz wears off you're right back in obscurity because you were cosplaying

Still grammy nominated and doing numbers over time which I don't foresee for chloe.

A more traditionalized R&B artist isn't going to be concerned with first week numbers, pop artists and more controversial ones would.

Things could turn around. Just needs one song to go viral

Kind of weird how dudes project this image on her. Bunch of simps. She showed you who she is. And she is just a bird. Treat her accordingly.
Nobody tryna save her just because they see she's not being authentic. You took a huge leap even taking this angle. Who's simping? :dahell:

People keep trying to turn this into some moralist issue as if SZA didn't have the #1 album in the country for ten weeks straight. The problem is simply that she can't find a hit, she doesn't really have a fanbase, and her image isn't garnering anything beyond attention. Singing about cheating and fukk nikkas is fine. Clearly that stuff is extremely popular today (again, see: SZA). But she could have come out with a bunch of ballads, love, and heartbreak songs and would have bombed the exact same if she didn't have a hit so...can we stop acting like sex is the problem please.

I would compare the era r&b/pop is in to gangsta rap circa the early 90s. There's a certain sound, subject matter, and delivery that is expected today by listeners. Doesn't mean the "thot rap/r&b" is the only way to go, it's simply the dominant way. But a hit is a hit and that changes the convo. I wasn't around at the time but looking back, Run DMC looked pretty corny in 1993 dressing in all black and pretending to be hard. But guess what: Down With The King was a hit, and the album went gold.

This shyt is driven by hits. If you're chasing hits you're gonna fail though. I think Chloe needs better songwriters and needs to be more open to the type of tracks she's willing to do, VS chasing a specific sound. I get the impression if she had been given something like Ella Mai's Trip, she'd consider not doing it because it didn't sound like xyz. But that song was a smash hit, in an era of SZA and Summer Walker.
It ain't a moralist issue

What y'all miss about the Chloe thing is she ain't being shytted on just for the thot shyt, she being shytted on because nikkas don't believe her:russ: it's almost as annoying as the girls that do this in real life. They do all the freaky presentation, the sexy eyes and all that, then when you get them alone you find out she's a virgin:dahell: That's the energy she gives off:russ:

And to your point about her chasing hits, that's what the FB post is addressing on a macro level. She's not only chasing hits, she's chasing an image that she's performing badly:manny:

Her and ari Lennox don’t really do numbers, however they have built dedicated fan bases that genuinely love their music and will show up when they tour.
Ppl just not buying music like they used to. Especially with streaming, no dedicated music video channels and no physical music. It seems very much disposable. They gotta create some type of engagement by bundling the music with something

This information has been repeatedly stated since at least Sunday.
I am glad I am not a celebrity. It’s like a permanent echo chamber you can never escape.

Because now, a mf like me .. who never knew any of this or cared… now ONLY knows this.. and care even less.

But I decided to listen to “cheat back”

What is actually wrong with it? It sounds like she needs to just keep doing what she doing the machine will take care of her. She gonna get new fans since the old ones fell in love with someone she never was.

Song isn’t my style but musically it literally sounds like the type of shyt that usually gets AirPlay.

Another theory that I have as well is when people are trying to reinvent themselves, for better or for worse, they need to retreat from the public eye. And just grind from the bottom up again. When you already viewed as one way, and then you switch up abruptly, it could go really bad
This ain't the 90s or early 2000s. All that machine shyt is only gonna do so much but you need the people to fukk with you, and that burden is more on the artist than nikkas want to admit

Nikkas thought the machine would take care of Tinashe :mjlol:

:russ: Mannnn stop…if she was making this wholesome brandy like music. Homie and black twitter speaks of. Y’all and black twitter still wouldn’t listen. And would’ve still found something to been mad about. Ol girl was always in a lose lose type of situation. CholexHalle was never popping in the 1st place. Only recently gotten in the spotlight. Because 1 is throwing ass, and the other is in a Disney movie. Them girls been putting out that wholesome music. Y’all so desperately wants but majority of y’all. Didn’t support that shyt lol.
She and her sister HAVE a fan base. It's preteen girls and Disney but Chloe doesn't want that lane and really neither does her sister cuz she's thotting too BUT she's smart enough to take the opportunities presented to her.

Pretty much this. If you ain't drake, bad bunny, Taylor swift, the weeknd, or anybody else at the absolute top then the numbers ain't really that hot
Even those artist #s is bullshyt! :mjlol:

Streaming #'s and pay is laughable! Touring def the way they making their main money!

It's true. I feel like more people know about the "my bootyhole brown" song then any song on her album despite the paid marketing being way more tilted to Chloe

her marketing strategy has been dumb, she trying straddle the line of being a wholesome "real" artist who can play instruments and be in disney products while also being a freaky smut who goes viral for fukkery. it don't go together. Lowkey might be why Lizzo career is less than what it could be too
