Someone on this site made the thread before (I can’t remember who), but a Brandy isn’t going to successful in this day and age mainly because her own fanbase won’t support them even if they were real and authentic.
Not true at all. Most artist have a fanbase, Chloe has a fan base but she is not catering to them. She's MJ trying to play baseball right now.

It's crazy how much of a household name they are, but can't hit with the music. The music is about on par with everything else out there, so to only do 10k means they ain't connecting and that post I think sums it up.

They had the cosign from Beyonce and everything.

People don't got a problem with "classy" or think it's boring, if anything you're basically held to the highest of regard/responsibilities in the art if you take on that role.

That's the problem here: I think they were too young to be placed on that perch. No track record to garner the respect and too young to realize the dangers of chasing clout for their career.

I think Normani would've been perfect for that role instead (talent is there, personality seems more authentic, etc) but she just took too long to release music.

The context of the original thread was why isn't there a black Taylor Swift out here and there is some truth to the matter in that the fan base just isn't there to get them to that level. Look at someone like HER who is a critical darling, but just hasn't blown up like that even with the type of music that'd appease her fan base.

HER isnt associated with Beyonce and Chloe is. Which is the whole reason we even know her cuz the music she is making now isn't good enough to be indie. A black Taylor Swift would be accepted if she doesn't expect the same audience as Summer Walker.

Her association doesn’t mean anything as Beyoncé’s shyt is out here flopping herself.

She never had a real audience to begin with. She never sold records. Nobody ever cared for her music. She is an industry plant propped up and pushed by the machine cause she ticked off all the checkmarks and her main selling point was that she had a beyonce cosign. But labels cant force stars anymore. She got a lot of attention she didnt really earn. Thats why her sales numbers dont match her hype and media push. Nobody is entitled to be a star. Tinashe music career flopped too.

People actually listen to this bird? I’ve never heard her voice. The only thing I know about her is that she has a nice body and id smash. That’s the type of energy she puts out. Had no idea she was signed to Beyoncé. Oh well.

I don't really follow music like i used to, so i can't come up with any girl next door type that are running the charts right now. so you may be right.
Janet had a pretty huge career in that lane though.

Ari Lennox, Ella Mai and H.E.R. are finding success and not on some super toxic ratchet shyt.

Taylor really wouldn't have been around much past 2009 if it wasn't for the kanye stuff and her celebrity relationships.

That’s underestimating how big her country fanbase was prior to the Ye stuff. She might not have had the pop crossover that she did, but she still would have been around at least in the country lane.

She would've rose and faded in that same decade just like John Mayer and other stars that were just a big as her during that time.
Kanye made her who she is today.
