Fabolous feed nikkas damn near every holiday, he got several albums and mixtapes out in the last 5 years and he had the streets on fire last year...

Troy Ave has Bricks In My Backpack Series, NYC Album, Major Without A Deal, Major Without A Deal Reloaded, has dropped mixtapes two straight Christmases and has the BSB group tapes with Young Lito and 'em. He's scored two big local hits with All About The Money and She Belongs To The Game in the past two years...

A$AP Rocky got a classic mixtape, two solid albums since 2011, Ferg got an album out and a mixtape, A$AP Mob has a mixtape, Nast and Twelvy got songs out. Rocky doing movies, fashion, tours.

French Montana got a banger every summer from Shot Caller to Off The Rip. Got a studio album and several solo and Coke Boyz mixtapes.

Joey BADA$$ got three mixtapes out and a debut album since 2012. Pro Era got a group mixtape out, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight and Nyck Caution have albums out and they doing well for independent artists.

Dave East got several mixtapes out and is touring in Japan. GS9 got mad music out before they got locked up. Who is lazy?

Not lazy, a lot of them work hard. It just seems they never adjusted with the times.

tRoy ave a perfect example, he straight up said a year ago or so he doesn't care about playing shows outside NY and gaining a following outside NY cause NY is the epi-center or whatever, he thinks he should purely blow up just cause he's a NY rapper sounding like a NY rapper in the 2010s.

Like they think just having bars and 90s beats = they should be on

That's not how shyt works these days. There's a small market today for people who really care about that compared to the youth & people under a certain age who don't care where you're from or "regional sounds" as long as they feel the MUSIC is "good".

IE: ASAP Rocky. People complained he hit the south but that didn't stop him from blowing up and people across the globe fukking with his music.

At least Troy Ave works though, He kills most NY rappers as far as independent grind go. And I don't even like Troy.

With the exception of 50 before he got his Major Deal from Em and Dre and Dipset when they was hustling mixtapes hard. Not many NY artist GRIND FOR REAL.

I agree with the sentiment in this thread that NY artsit have always been used to labels doing everything.

Thats not the case in the South,Midwest, West ( mostly Bay)

there are plenty of reasons why NY rap is not as good as it used to be but first, i disagree with your premise although you can argue that there are few venues for burgeoning rappers in the tri state area

but work ethic is a good reason....Ferg, Rocky, French, Troy Ass, Dave East, Flatbush Zombies, Bas, Nicki, Fab, all them are consistently dropping music and doing shows globally so i don't see the argument that Migos , Boosie etc are working harder than them. dudes in the South have certain advantages: 1) their style is popular/they can make whatever type music they want without their cities turning against them for "sounding like" another city 2)radio support/strip clubs 3) support from their legends/veterans 4)you can build a huge buzz just touring the South and Midwest...an ATL rapper can do shows in ATL, Birmingham, Florida, Texas, Virginia, Chicago, Detroit, Missouri, South Caroline, North Carolina...these states all have large populations and venues that smaller rappers can use to build a fanbase....an equivalent rapper in NY is going where? a couple small place in NYC, North NJ, CT, PA and thats it really as far as the Northeast

this is all my opinion tho....

NY rappers can also go to VA, NC, DC, and MD...and DE...or Mass, and all those other places up there. Start doing more than what other nikkas do.

DC/MD is not know for its rap scene/infrastructure and look at the size of hose states compared to the cities of the South. There's also a large Dj network for southern artists across the south/Midwest and southern rappers use it to their advantage
I think that's why you see more NY rappers doing global shows then southern rappers

I still don't know why people expect NY to be 90 % of all rappers when the city represents 2.5 % of the nation, the south represents like 40 %. You mentioned 4 rappers from 4 different states, and act like they are from the same hood.

Compare regions to regions, states to states or cities to cities.

What!

DMV LOVED NYC STUFF!

DMV(including the baltimore area) has at least 5 million people

Once you include New England, and Philly, you are talking even more people.

I lived in both NY and DC and I rap. NY nikkas do shows in DC all the time.
