Brehs, was this the most forced couple ever on a black sitcom?

And people made it seem like Doug and Carrie on King of Queens was unrealistic, which I disagree with. Carrie wasn’t some bad bytch and as the show went on, she got :flabbynsick:

Doug might have been a doofus but he was a provider and was decent looking for a fat dude. They complimented each other well considering Carrie was just a glorified secretary.

I agree.

It made even more sense when they did the flashback ep showing how they met.
Doug was an athlete who fell off over time, and Carrie was a cute NY broad with a stank attitude who fell off over time. They are billions of folks in relationships just like that.

Its not how Carrie looks..despite her round Italian ass, its her attitude. She just seems like she wouldn't put up with a goofy cat like that.
It's not like she had many options anyway. Sure, she can go out and get some 6 figure stud. But he'd smash and dash her memo typing ass. She probably learned her lesson early on and figured out what lane she was in.

Jaleesa and Colonel Taylor on A Different World was forced as hell.

They got married at the beginning of the 5th season with hardly any indication of attraction between the two, then he impregnated her and must have sent her ass packing cause we didn't see them together in season 6.

Speaking of ADW, Ron and Kim as well as Ron and Freddie was forced as hell. Dude was a bum who took an extra year to graduate college, then afterwards was slumming from place to place. Why would a future doctor and future lawyer waste time with this dude?:mjlol:

that happens all the time though Ron and Kim were horrible together. I loved Ron and Freddie though. Freddie became a baddie once she straightened her hair.

I'll admit that for the most part, she did push him to the brink of insanity most times, but for a couple of examples, there was the episode where his friend Zelmer was going to go off into the Persian Gulf and Dwayne was just going to write him off. I can't say that Dwayne and Zelmer ended the episode on the highest of notes, but it was Whitley who convinced Dwayne that there wasn't anything he could do to stop Zelmer from leaving, and that Dwayne needed to be more of a friend in Zelmer's time of need.

There's also the very last episode when she convinced Dwayne that he needed to squash his beef with Ron over the development of a computer program before they moved to Japan.

I'll give you that in the real world, a woman like Whitley will probably go for a Julian type, but as you've seen in the show, she wouldn't have been ultimately happy with him. How many women do we know that go for guys based on just status, but end up unhappy or single mothers? That's why Dwayne and Whitley are a couple that lots refer to as a good black TV couple IMO

Anyone that cared for him could've done that stuff. And that was actually a departure for Whitley, she was the one that usually had to be talked off the ledge. I love the show but that was pure romantic comedy fantasy. Like I said, a women like Whitley would be better off with a Dwayne but that doesn't make it any more likely that she would go for him. And Whitley was fine and a hilarious character, but not real life relationship material.

I mean, in real life Tracie is a lesbian and Reggie is gay so it kind of...makes sense?

I'm joking
