I remember nikkas saying that years before dude was making vids

When it comes to online shyt he is the dude that made it popular. Just like tariq is the dude that made the word c00n popular online

Most of these names originate from and are created using 'baby talk'. And in the black communities these names were proliferated due to the high number of non-nuclear families. So if you grow up in a household that may include cousins, aunts, grandmothers, nicknames create a familial informality. Aside from this, most other nicknames are an institutional creation (prison, military, sports, gang culture) and usually contain some derivative of your surname due to a high volume of people with the same first name.

Those names came from the black parents. Black folks giving their babies nicknames and then those babies growing up and keeping those nicknames as teens and adults.

That's how you end up with a whole bunch of "Man Man's", "Ray Ray's", "Pookie's", "Tee Tee's" ect.

All those names have been around the hood as long as I can remember and I'm old as fukk. LOL

That's why it baffles me if a black person is asking where those names came from. If you have a predominately black family, especially in the hood, you have heard these names.

Some folks conflate pookie and ray ray with some ghetto stereotype when folks actually know people with these nicknames.

Also, before Jersey Shore, I knew a black Snooki.

I have a Junebug on both sides of my family :jbhmm:

Yep... I knew it was another popular hood nickname I was forgetting... "Junebug". LOL

I grew up with a "Junebug"... he lived 4 houses down from me.

I also had a dike that lived in my hood when I was growing up and her nickname was "Lady Bug".

I got family with both names:russ:

It's common, along with a whole lot of other lil names that folks my pretend are racial stereotypes, but anyone with a black family and black friends have heard at least one of these names.

Grew up with two kids nicknamed Dee-dee and Nuk-nuk.
Pretty much.

My sister's middle name is Rachel so she goes by Ray-Ray. My cousin gets called Pookie because it was a baby name his mom would say when he was young. shyt just stuck.

Same with Dee-Dee, her name's Deidre. :yeshrug:
