What you mean? And the plot thickens...
Anybody who is black usually knows whats what..What you mean?
Ah I gotcha. It legit puzzles me. In fact, like Lil Wayne, I was always "Lil Cashout" cause my dad was "Big Cashout". Anybody black has to have a ton of nicknames on deck, and pookie and ray ray is in everyone's family.Anybody who is black usually knows whats what..
If you (not you) have to ask where Ray Ray and Pookie came from...![]()
Since we’re talking about common nicknames, I know a gang of Zays, Nickis, Reds, and Shays.![]()
Don't even got to be blood. I shared my name with one of the homies and even to this day I'm still "lil" to everybody that knows both of us.Nique, Nique lil anything. Lil shawn, lil mike, lil brian. Lil usually means there's a father or uncle with the same name in black families
Ray Ray just a nickname for Ray, Raymond, etc.
We got a habit of doubling names, words, etc. That’s cultural.
Pookie is an old ass nickname. Like I wouldn’t doubt it goes back to at least slavery times. Hell I got a great-great uncle whose LEGAL name was Bootsy.
Has anyone ever done any cultural anthology on nicknames in AA culture? The diaspora? I’m sure if you dig enough you can find some links back to Africa.
