Only cards I can get rn are from credit one. And according to Reddit they’re very predatory smh. The only 2 cards I have rn are secured capital one cards.

Just for clarity are you with Credit One or Capital One? Two different issuers. If you're with Credit One thats fine if thats all u got, but if at all possible try and join a credit union near you. Pen Fed, Navy Fed, etc. They are far more lenient than national banks and u will get approved with them.

The reason why i said go get the 2 secured cards instead of the Credit One is that eventually you will close down those predatory cards in a year or two and that history will inevitably be gone. So its better to think ahead and open up accounts you know u will keep for a long time.

Age is something that helps u, but if you keep opening and closing accounts, u wont get that benefit.

Instead of this.. ask a parent/friend/spouse to put you on their card as an authorized user..you will get your credit up quicker.. I never had a secured card in my life.

The problem with authorized user accounts is it will inflate your credit score when u pull credit Karma or Experian, but when you actually try and put your credit to use i.e get approved for mortgage/personal/business funding, Underwriters will not count them...so its like you dont even have it at all.

Bank algorithms know the difference between primary accounts and AUs.

I have a 714 score with one credit one bank card. When I lived in NYC I only made like one 10 dollars per month purchase on the card and I always paid it off in full.

Now I that live in FL I'm 400 dollars in debt and they started charging interest. I pay 50 dollars a month to lower it :francis:

I'm on a fixed income.

Nawl I’m with capital one.. I got 2 quicksilver secured card. Well one they returned my deposit and upgraded to unsecured. The other is still secured.

I was just saying on my credit karma they recommend me credit one cards and they constantly send letters in the mail about em

I'm not mad at that. If he can get the AU for free do it...but at some point he has to start building with a primary card if he ever wants to be taken seriously.

He's gonna find out real quick that his 3 digit FICO isnt the end all be all, and banks will pay attention to the quality of accounts on his profile.

oh u with Cap1 already...u at a decent starting spot. Dont apply for anything with CreditKarma. They are a marketing company that gets paid every time u apply. They dont have your best interest at heart. Multiple hard inquries drops your score so 2 cards is good for now.

Another thing, every 6-8 months reach out to Cap1 and ask for a credit limit increase. It will help your overall utilization.

Once u start approaching 10k credit limits you'll be able to start getting approved for large limits from other institutions.

Do you have any collections/chargeoffs?

Who offered to dispute them? You can call the card company directly to work out paying them.

1. Purchase something on your card
2. Pay off that purchase on said card in full before due date
3. Repeat until 700+

This. Use a credit card as a debit card. All the purchases you plan on making with a debit card make with a credit card and pay it off every month. Most credit cards offer rewards, so find a good one that offers good rewards. I use an airline card to accumulate miles.

Any tips on how to get dere? Besides just paying bills on time ?

Keep Utilization Low, Pay off Purchases as soon as you make them, always pay more than the minimum if you do have a balance.

High Credit score doesn't mean you have no balances, it just means you come out the pocket for and pay on time.
I been around 770-800 for the past 8-9 years and it doesn't really do anything beyond 700.

You get offered some cards, won't ever have to worry about car loan denials. Other than that. Once you crest 700, just keep it chill and you're good.
Also, find cards that give you points per purchase or flight miles. Stack them up then use them to do shyt like buy vacations or hotel rooms. That's the shyt that can rack up your card anyway.

dont pay anybody to dispute for you. Under FCRA u have rights.

If your collections are with 3rd party collectors like LVNV, Midland, etc you need to send them a validation letter. You can easily find basic ones on google.

Another thing, dont get on the phone to negotiate. Ask for everything in writing. Do not pay them nikkas shyt unless its in writing and you have the sign a 'Pay For Deletion' letter.

these debt collection companies are shady as fukk

yeah those are 3rd party debt collection agencies, they arent going to offer Pay For Deletions bc it doesnt benefit them. They just wanna scare u so u pay fast.

in the future you send them a letter stating in exchange for paying (usually start with 30-40% of what they are trying to collect) they will remove the collection from your credit report.

now the collection is probably going to stay on your credit report with a status underneath that says something like 'Paid as agreed' or something.

Thats fine tho, with time it wont impact u as much.
