Catalonia can leave but they need a nationally accepted referendum. If Scotland secedes and successfully join the EU, Catalonia will ask for the same thing and thing will get ugly in Spain.

Anyway, let's see what Scotland next move will be. Let's give it some time.

It appears Scotland could have another referendum. And it might pass. What you said is interesting cuz Catalonian separatist are watching Scotland like . Alot of problems. Fragmentation of Great Britian, other nation might exit the EU, the never ending Greek debt crisis,austerity, migrant crisis. Lord have mercy if worst came to worst Europe in 2026 is gonna look different from Europe 2016. Merkel is gonna have the face until her election next year.

These people haven't accepted the blame for their failures so far; why would this prompt them to start? They didn't adapt to the changes, they didn't elect or lobby politicians that could protect their interests, they're voting for policies they don't understand that won't fix any of the problems they are facing. Direct democracy requires an educated and engaged populace; it's obvious the developed world does not have that.
