Black Self-Sufficiency
I am of the opinion it is an idiotic trade. Brittany Grinner over 5 years she possibly regains from being brought home could never make up for the harm Viktor Bout has done before he was captured and will probably do after he is freed. The man is literally called "the Merchant of Death" and is serving a 25 year prison sentence.

So, is this trade really just for political expediency? I personally can't see a moral reason to use him as a bargaining chip for the release of Brittany Grinner and Paul Whelan. Paul Whelan is also the man that received a bad-conduct discharge.

( Paul actually received a bad-conduct discharge from the US Marines in 2008 and his rank was reduced to that of corporal when he was found guilty of bouncing checks and the attempted theft of $10,000 during a tour in Iraq.)
