It's hard to articulate, but I notice there's a strange culture being developed by social media that's trying to teach people to never be happy with themselves unless they've reached some idealized standard. People achieve things just to hop on TikTok and say you don't deserve anything if you're not rich enough, if you don't certain a job, if you don't look a certain way, etc. It's all incredibly toxic and for some reason it's actually resonating with people.

The wildest part is a lot of people don't even meet the standards they're agreeing with. The majority of young people are probably a paycheck away from being in trouble, yet they're co-signing this anti "broke" mentality. Just seems like a cycle of people wanting to feel better by fantasizing as if they're some elite group who can tell people how to live.

As someone who believes and values hard work and doing for-self, you spoke nothing but facts

We all know success relies just as much on connections as hard work and smarts. What if you get the job because you and the hiring manager connect over your love of the Cowboys? People like to work with people they enjoy being around and you don't want to be the boring ass dude that just works, eats and sleeps all day.

I'd argue being at least somewhat media literate is important. Imagine you interact with someone raised in America and they don't understand ANY references even to highly popular media like say the Simpsons, the Sopranos, Goodfellas, Avengers: Infinity War, the Matrix, etc.

Or you meet a black American and they don't get any references to black media or culture. You say "put me anywhere on gods green earth, i'll triple my worth" or "grand opening, grand closing' and they just stare at you blankly? Obviously there are Generational differences but i hope you get my point. these little references inform us on who is "one of us" and who isn't. In group and out group.

Sounds like he knows his audience. He’s wrong, but the tactic of breaking people down and then rebuilding them in a way that suits you is a good way to build loyal followers who will obey everything you tell them. They probably paid to be insulted and will keep paying.

I watch him on youtube from time to time, smart brotha. What yall dont seem to get is that harsh words are fuel to motivate people. See,the problem is we as black men have been far too coddled. Especially those of us raised by single mothers. Then we grow up and get coddled by black women who think they are our mothers. Well guess what, coddle time is officially over in 2024. He is 1000% right, and if it triggers anyone, its because they know the truth. Black men as a collective should be far too busy building to watch t.v,be on social media, posting on thecoli, playing video games like we do.

When he said this, all of you did a quick calculation of how much time you spend doing constructice things. Versus the ammount of time you spend focused on nonsense. Ill take it a step further and say ALL black men shouldnt be watching t.v(figuratively). Of course you will spend time relaxing and winding down. But alot of you just now did the appraisal on how much time yall spend focused on nonsense. Nonsense that doesnt enrich you or your family. Think about that next time any of you call someone a casual in the Coliseum. Your supposed to be a damn casual.

And to be clear Im not on thecoli shooting the breeze. Im actively brainwashing a network of black men with knowledge of self. Which makes my time on here highly productive. Tighten up black men, dont kill the messenger:respect:

I hate how people are so emotional about and I'm talking from both sides

those with it and those without it

oh well

Thats the only part i dont agree with. These convos shouldnt always be money focused. Alot of peoples spouses, children and family members falling through the cracks in a variety of ways. Due to people refusing to give them their time and attention:respect:

Not trying to debate, I’m just responding because you quoted me.

My Pops used to say “my momma always used to ask why are you watching tv? They made their money” so believe it or not, I grew up hearing this kind of talk… weekly it seems like. I get the idea, but we all spend our downtime doing something we find relaxing. I have rich friends and family who play video games, go to shows and sporting events or watch tv regularly. It didn’t stop them from getting bread.

My take, that you quoted, is based on the psychology behind boot camp and how the military can turn a scrawny kid into a trained killer who follows commands and does what he is told with no questions.

When you’re getting money like that you don’t even have time to watch tv like that. Let’s keep it real if the average person was highly productive and performing in their lives they wouldn’t have time to watch TV or play video games if we keeping it 100 and these businesses wouldn’t be making the amount of money that they do.
Disagree.

I work in finance and I disagree with him. All the white VPs and managers are die hard American sports fans.

The dudes you talking about were just flat out bums. At the end of the day whether you are a bum or not you will always find joy in some fort of entertainment.
I agree.

I'm in tech, but in a finance firm. I've seen the same thing the few times ive visited the csuites. From what I've seen in the csuite corner offices (and even the vps) , it's a whole lot of posters and memorabilia from both college and professional sports. Everything from baseball to football to bball .

Even our Indian CTO got signed rugby balls and Chelsea jerseys on his wall.

Yup should have brought this up. All their offices are lined up with sports gear.

We have a London VP who all of a sudden is a die hard eagles fan lol
