Is a Creative Writing degree a clunker too?

YES! Publishers are dying off breh... I mean publishers aren't "hiring" writers because they have degrees in creative writing and saying "I'll front you money to write a book"... it's the other way around...you have to write a book (or a manuscript/teaser) and then shop it to publishers who will possibly give you a book deal. Your degree has nothing to do with it.

Best advice I could give you is figure out what you want to do specifically (write books, write movies, write tv shows, etc.) and figure out if you need a degree for that. If you want to write books, get a degree in Entrepreneurship and learn how to self publish/market, etc. If you want to write movies, get a degree in media so you learn the movie making process and start with short movies, etc.

If you want to go into news and journalism, get that degree...

Getting a degree in English (composition, literacy, or both/either) is like heading down a dead end... UNLESS you want to get into education and be a teacher.

I can't tell you what degree to get until you really think of something you want to do for work. If I were you I would evaluate what types of jobs you would like to do (If it IS writing....you may not need a degree...but figure out what type of writing so you can get a more practical degree)

It's hard to say "get a marketing degree..get a PR degree" because I don't know you or what you want to do. But a pure English degree is not going to lead to any real lucrative future.

smh. you dont HAVE to only do jobs related to your major. plenty of people have jobs in areas unrelated to their degree, but just having a degree help them get their foot in the door.

so dont listen to people telling you are going to be poor/broke on this forum. i guarantee you most of these folk have no degree and just want to drag you down where they are.

that said, if you think you have an interest in something that might translate to a good jobs easier then change it :yeshrug:

Teach English overseas. Literally do damn near no work while doing it. Spend your large amount of free time drinking and fukking. Wonder where all the time went 20 years later. Finesse a government job back home. Retire. Profit

FACTS, China paying heavy for english teachers, plus you can smash paags all day.

Become an English teacher, work your way into a administration role as a dean, principal, assistant principal, coordinator and you'll be living nice. Maybe continue your education get a phd and become a college professor once you get older.

Right now in NYC teachers are making median salary after 8 years of teaching and with a masters degree $84,694+health benefits, the pay grade is set to increase by 13% yearly until 2018 where it will cap. Teachers have a lot of off time summer off, weekends off, all holidays off, winter and spring breaks so it's a lot of time to pick up a side hustle. Summer school pays $45 an hour. I don't know where you're from though.
