Genuine question: did anyone in this thread say they weren't descended from Africans? Because the whole reason the African American identity was created was to acknowledge that. You seem to be arguing a point nobody made.

What do you mean? We're Black Americans, about 10 generations deep in this country, which is about 300 years. There is no changing that and there is no going back. Our identities are completely different. What people fail to mention is we can build ourselves here, there's no reason to go back to Africa. Some of the wealthiest Black men and women are American. Jordan, Jay Z, Daymond, Dre, Oprah, all billionaires.

That's not an answer. We aren't talking about positions. The question is, are Jamaicans and Haitians and Bahamians also African and not the countries they identify with, or does that only apply to AAs? Last I checked, black folks aren't native to those countries either.

NO shyt. BLACK SUGGESTS AFRICAN ANCESTRY.

But I’m also a Black American ADOS man. That comes from the distinct Black American culture that was made here that has family members in the African American Hall of Fame, that has built up cities here with their own money. Y’all the ones that keep playing games with our ancestry, deciding when we are or are not African depending on the argument. Black American is fine with me because it is something the whole world can’t deny. It’s my current incarnation and the people I have shared values with. It also allows me not to speak for actual continental Africans that come from the nuance of those recently created nations


Just like there are Nigerians that call Nigeria an abortion or a zoo but still claim Nigeria as an identifier. Even though they PREDATE the creation of the state. Think of it that way
