The only way for Simmons and Embiid to get it done together is through the addition of a big name FA. We need another star, particularly one who can create and score from the perimeter. We're not bad enough to draft a star, we don't have the players to trade for a star, so FA is the only choice. As long as Horford and Harris are here we don't have the cap space.
Tobias Harris for Mike Conley and a 2nd - We pick up an expiring contract in Conley and an additional 2nd considering Tobias is by far the better player still and brings a lot of value to Utah. Utah will be capped out anyway since they have to extend Mitchell and Gobert, so this may be the only way they can add another big name player. He'd do well in Utah getting to play PnR with Gobert and taking some pressure off Mitchell but not having to be the top perimeter guy. Mitchell/Bojan/Ingles/Harris/Gobert is a really nice starting 5 for themConley as a stopgap PG for a year would allow us to continue the Simmons PF experiment and see if it's the right way to move in the future. I'm sure Embiid would like having Conley.
Al Horford and picks for Nicolas Batum - We probably have to give up a pick to get rid of Al for an expiring contract. Whether it's a 2nd or a 1st who knows, but we have to do it I think. Maybe we're lucky and Jordan doesn't ask for a pick since he lowkey likes to compete, whatever. We gotta do it.
Assuming JRich declines his player option, we could then have $41mil in cap space in the 2021 Summer to pursue a max FA and more to add to a crew of Simmons, Embiid, Zhaire, Matisse, Korkmaz, Milton, the 21st pick this year, and our 2021 1st, and anyone we maybe find in the 2nd round.
I don't see another option for the Simmons+Embiid pairing
I don’t see why Utah wouldn’t do that deal .
That looks like a win-win .
