The only thing I recommend when buying an older house is to pay for a sewer inspection with a camera. Coworker bought a 70s flip reno house with a yard full of trees and discovered after the fact, even after paying for the required inspection before purchase, that he has to replace the entire system out to the street. .  We couldn't get with these new builds either....they either cheap looking, cheaply made, too close together and got that HOA bullshyt that we didn't grow up with.  And outside of Charlotte and Greensboro especially, have some terrible ass houses from what we saw.
