I think you're glossing over the fact that he was in a lose/lose from the gate. Kobe was on a farewell tour. It was a season of lettin Kobe fire off as many shots as he wanted while trying to tank at the same time to get a lottery pick :heh:

Lakers actually didn't set out to tank this season. It only played out that way because of how inept Scott was. Byron could've also done alot better job on the Kobe farewell tour. He should've coached Kobe, he actually made Kobe look bad by giving him carte blanche to shoot so many 3's. I saw the bs the 1st week of the season. A good coach would've put Kobe in the spots where he could succeed. Kobe still had a good low-post and mid-range game. Run some sets for dude to succeed and bench his ass if he continue to shoot 3's. Also Kobe was on board with doing what he had to do to help the team win & develop in the beginning. But again Byron basically told the nikka he could do whatever he wanted, so Kobe was like:yeshrug:.

Byron wasted a whole year, alienated the young players, and guaranteed that no significant free agents would dare come here if he remained the coach.

I feel what you're saying. But I think that Scott got word from the top to let Kobe do whatever he wanted on his farewell tour. So if that meant Kobe jackin up a gang of 3's, sittin out whenever he wanted, goin 4-24 etc. Kobe was the Lakers golden child and whatever he wanted to do , he had free range. B Scott was a pawn :heh:

"Among the candidates the Lakers will look at are Luke Walton, Kevin Ollie, Jay Wright, Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, John Calipari, Ettore Messina, Jeff Van Gundy and David Blatt, sources told Shelburne. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Jeff Hornacek is also expected to be on the Lakers' list."

Nah, they wanted him to manage the situation between playing Kobe and developing the young players. He failed miserably at both. Dude had to go:camby:

Could be even worse if they fall out of the Top 3 and have to surrender their pick to Philly.
They are going to eventually lose the pick, either this year or next.

The Lakers have some nice young pieces and a sh!tload of cap. They just have to pick the right coach, which they haven't done well the last 3 times.
