They are going to eventually lose the pick, either this year or next.

The Lakers have some nice young pieces and a sh!tload of cap. They just have to pick the right coach, which they haven't done well the last 3 times.

Is the pick unprotected in 2017 or 2018? Forget how many years that lotto pick is Top 3 protected.

Half that list is a joke. fukking Izzo and Roy Williams? :martin:

Budenholzer is gonna be a free agent.
:francis: They all better than Byron Scott. The fourth coaching search time will be the charm.
Sources said there was a recognition that it was "impossible" to evaluate Scott based on the talent level on the team the past two years, but the Lakers felt they needed a new vision that embraced the current style of wide-open play and outside shooting.

So we waited for Tibs and Brooks to be hired and then fired Bscott? :francis:
yes..we did. tell me that thibs and or brooks are championship caliber coaches. they are not. only brooks has been to the finals once and we know his offense is stale as all hell. similar to scotts. we know thibs is all defense and effort as a head coach but he still is not a championship coach on his own. the combination of a hall of fame roster and coach rivers = championship caliber. i say the same about doc rivers too. unless they steal a win now that steph is down which will be an " * " in my opinion. doc has never won a ring without thibs either. they need one another.

so the lakers didnt lose anything here. they are out there looking for a new young coach. its really that simple. they went with the hardnosed old school guy to set the tone for the kids in their rookie season while also giving kobe a nice farewell(he was kobe's mentor on the team when kobe came in. and that was all of scott's job. if by chance he hit it off super well with the kids. then he would still be around. but scott dont like losing like that and he would have to hang around for another 2 years of taking loses before the young guys grew up. thats why it may be best they get a young coach they can grow with. so unless you have coach Pop as a free agent then everyone else is just a playoff level coach.. no more and no less. kerr is under contract. luke might be free and so will messina (or however you say his name..dude from the spurs i believe.), and kevin ollie who is under contract with his college team. but he can leave that for the pros if he chose to. its the full on YOUTH movement. in addition, they dont want scott scarying away any Young FA's. scott is perfect for the old era. but these young boys now are two entitled and they cry with the slightest bit of criticism. so it is what it is.

if they hire fisher. i might be done. i said might. lol.

i think fish's people are pushing that info out and bouncing it off the lakers to make other teams check for him just like the players do every summer that have zero intention on signing with the lakers. but its a great place to get the Gm's buzzing about you because regardless of what the haters believe. the lakers still set the tone for talent acquisition. the league knows the lakers org knows great talent when they see it in coaches or players. they are the reason pat riley was so successful and is still successful as a GM today. he's using the laker formula.

if the lakers get lucky and hold onto a top 3 pick this season. philly gets our first round pick the following year with Zero protection. meaning regardless of our record we could be the best team or the worst and win the lotto balls to get the #1 pick. philly would still end up with the pick. so either we lose it this year, lose out on simmons/ingram or whats dudes name that was putting up the numbers in the tourny. or some other sleeper. or we miss out on next years top dudes. cause unless the lakers go ham in free agency. the lakers will still miss the playoffs at least one more year of grooming the kids. it takes time. ask gstate, ask durant with seattle/then to okc. nothing is over night unless you're lebron style aka the whole package fresh out. no one is like that fresh out of high school or 1 year removed from highschool except for bron and shaq. even magic did 2 years in college. and he walked into the league and won a ring. i dont see any brons or shaqs in this draft or next years draft. their might be some kobe's(takes a minute to turn into the best ever) or a tmac, or vince carter, or durant, etc. so again its going to be at least another season before the lakeshow sniffs the offseason. unless we go ham in Free agency this year and or next year. all you need is two stars and add these top 10 draft pick rookies with upside. if they fulfill their upside or if one out of say russell, clarkson, randle, and nance fulfill their abilities. that would be 3 allstars on the same team(2 FA stars, and 1 young guy star). if the other kids named fulfil 70% of their abilities they will be in the nba for 10 to 15 years as solid role guys. that means the lakers would have 3 allstars, and at worse 2 more SOLID championship level role guys(assuming non of them are choke artists in the offseason.)

all the above scenarios are possible. but most likely it will be another year of young growing pains.

One of the all time worst coaches.
STOP Listening to sports talk radio. thats not true at all. now was he the best coach for this super young and dumb team in this era of soft egos? no

was he a solid coach in a prior era? YES. he had his team in the championship with a lesser cast than most. he had cp3 and the hornets balling out even vs the much better laker team in the playoffs. so sorry i cant call a coach a bad coach when he has a team full of kids that are not lebron status or shaq status. sorry. that aint his fault. oh and this season cant be counted against him one bit. you had kids and the kobe tour. that right there says there is no way in hell you're going to win games like that.

Let me ask you this. If Popovich was the coach last year, do you think the Lakers would have won a championship
That ain't the point breh. It ain't about winning championships right now we got a team full of rookies

It's about putting the young guys in position to learn the pro game and succeed as early as possible. It's about teaching them what good offense is and what shots to take and not to take.

It's about teaching them good defensive habits and having a defensive gameplan for them to follow from night to night

It's about lifting them up and letting them know that the next play will be better than the last play. It's especially important to do that with young players

It's also about not disparaging your top pick in the media and bad mouthing him every chance you get when somebody shoves a mic in your face

Byron Scott is not the right coach for this team AT ALL
