I know y’all aren’t placing 2022 concepts on people who lived hundreds of years ago :dead: The Chinese would’ve sold out the Mongols if they could. The Aztecs were destroyed because the other nearby tribes sold them out to Cortes, a white Spaniard. Likewise, the Dahomey didn’t GAF about people they were at war with. It’s fukked up they had a major role in the slave trade but they had no clue what their actions would help cause. Please don’t be dumb and think race meant anything back then :dead:
:comeon:

The way the story/movie is written is based on "2022 concepts" of race. That is why folks are in here "placing 2022 concepts" on the movie.... The literal selling point in the trailer is based around modern concepts of race... black people/women beating up the evil white European men/Colonizers.

Says for us to make movies about our direct West African ancestors and not our distant Egyptians ones. We do that and they still complain :mjlol: Maybe now y’all fence riding dummies will realize they don’t want ANY black films about black people doing ANYTHING throughout history.

:childplease:

It’s poor taste to lionize people who probably sold 1 million+ Africans to cacs.

Do you think it’s impossible to make a historical fiction film set in Africa that doesn’t place Trans-Atlantic Slave traders as heroes?

The English Pilgrims were subjected to all sorts of atrocities by members of the Church of England including being burned at the stake and being sent to the guillotine which caused them to flee to America. Are New England WASP, the descendants of the Pilgrims, going around saying fukk the English and fukk England?

We forever stay in our trendy flighty emotions and nothing good ever comes from it. Ever.

The Dahomey kingdom is dead. Fukk Dahomey? They are not around anymore to accept your fukks. Calm down.

:unimpressed:

There are Yoruba speakers in Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad who can tell you Dahomey (or Fon people — and they still exist) sold their ancestors into slavery.

The Dahomey Kingdom is dead. And it’s never coming back. :unimpressed:

Find something else to get you triggered.

This the last post I’m going to make about this subject. The way you’re staging this is dumb. The Dahomey were not agents of white supremacy. There was no concept of race or white supremacy then. The Dahomey had were at war with various tribes, captured said tribes, and sold them off to Euros, who at the time, were a new third party that no one knew anything about. They weren’t Sky Net yet. They weren’t the Sith yet. They weren’t the White Walkers yet. You keep putting everything through a 2022 lens when no one back then knew what we know now. Everyone back then had as much common sense as we do. They dealt with Euros because they didn’t know any better. And like I said, for comparison, the Aztecs had their empire destroyed because the other Native groups helped the Spaniards take over. They didn’t realize they were helping the enemy and signing their own death warrants because they didn’t know any better either. Learn to be objective.

By the 19th century, there was definitely white supremacy and “race science”. Look at what the Confederates wrote when they seceded from the Union.

What This Cruel War Was Over

“We do not think that whites should be slaves either by law or necessity. Our slaves are black, of another and inferior race. The status in which we have placed them is an elevation. They are elevated from the condition in which God first created them, by being made our slaves. None of that race on the whole face of the globe can be compared with the slaves of the South. They are happy, content, unaspiring, and utterly incapable, from intellectual weakness, ever to give us any trouble by their aspirations. Yours are white, of your own race; you are brothers of one blood. They are your equals in natural endowment of intellect, and they feel galled by their degradation.”

:unimpressed:

This process was accelerated by racial darwinism.

You are not well-read on this subject, exemplified by your mentioning of the fictional villainous organization from Star Wars, “the Sith”.

Says the dumbass mentioning the 19th century when we’re talking about the 1600s and before :russell:when the Dahomey initially got into the slave trade. You are not well-read on the subject :russell:

Dahomey tried to enslave the Yoruba in the 19th century. Please stop. You’re embarrassing yourself.

The 1851 Invasion of Abeokuta By The Lethal Dahomey Amazon Warriors

Enslaved Yoruba were sent to Brazil and Cuba until the 1860s. In fact the last slave ship sent to the US, Clotilda, carried Yoruba slaves captured by Dahomey.

Redoshi - Wikipedia

Redoshi lived in a village in West Africa, in today's Benin. The name "Redoshi" is unknown in West Africa, though 14 names similar to it appear in the African Origins database.[3] Her village was attacked in a raid by Dahomey people, who killed her father (possibly a village leader)[4] and took her captive at about age 12, around 1860. They sold her to the American captain of the illegal slave ship Clotilda. She was forced to marry another captive, a man also from West Africa who was already married and spoke a different language. Her husband was later referred to as "Uncle Billy" or "Yawith".

After the ship reached Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama, where Meaher lived, Redoshi was sold with her husband to Washington Smith, a planter in Dallas County, Alabama,[2] about 15 miles (24 km) west of Selma. Smith was a wealthy man who owned a big plantation in Bogue Chitto. He also had a townhouse in Selma and was among the founders of the Bank of Selma.[6] He renamed her "Sally Smith" and put her to work in the fields and sometimes the big house.[3]Apparently, two of the Dahomey people who had kidnapped Redoshi and her kinfolk were also taken captive and transported to North America on the same slave ship. They worked alongside Redoshi in the fields, and she never forgave them.

Clotilda (slave ship) - Wikipedia

Dahomey, kingdom in western Africa that flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries in the region that is now southern Benin. According to tradition, at the beginning of the 17th century three brothers vied for the kingdom of Allada, which, like neighbouring Whydah (now Ouidah), had grown rich on the slave trade. When one of the brothers won control of Allada, the other two fled. One went southeast and founded Porto-Novo, on the coast east of Whydah. The other, Do-Aklin, went north to found the kingdom of Abomey, core of the future Dahomey. They all paid tribute to the powerful Yoruba kingdom of Oyo to the east.

You’re dumb. Started in the 1600s like I said.

And just to humor your point about the 1800s, again a timeframe I wasn’t talking about, you’re still talking about white supremacy like it was a globally recognized concept. Like there was Google in the 1800s. I can see your dumbass now talking to somebody in Africa in 1829 about white supremacy :dead:
