Cmon, B. I remember those days very well.

That hipster, preppy look was NOT in style back in 2003. People thought Kanye was soft and didn't look like a rapper should look. Now everybody is a hipster. Now everybody looks like him.

And yes......Kanye, J. Cole and Drake are regular nikkas. You had to be a gangsta to rap before.

all I see in those pics is a nicca wearing polo shirts. is that supposed to be new?:laff:

and if youre talking about the sizes of clothes, then that chit is credited to byrd gang. which makes your post disrespectful since youre saying that chit in a dipset thread. the same types of people that saw kanye as soft 10 years ago, are the same people calling him soft now. most kids on the street do not dress like no dam kanye west. in reality, byrd gang had more influence on hip-hop fashion than kanye by far. I know the media wants to credit people like pharrell and kanye for chit but I don't fall for the okey-doke.

I do give him credit for laying the groundwork for the soft kids to have a style to run with, instead of everybody dressing the same like 10 years ago.

and I never denied j.cole BUT kanye & drake are not regular niccas.

and on what planet did you have to be a gangsta to rap before kanye? when kanye was coming out, the biggest sellers consisted mostly of the likes of Eminem, outkast, Ludacris, chingy, black eyed peas, etc. and then you had people like nelly who could've spit that gangsta chit on the reg if he wanted to, and jarule who was making a living off of crooning.

this whole idea that kanye broke barriers is media hype. in fact, there was clearly a communal push from media outlets to make kanye a star before he even really did anything. other rappers were complaining about that actually. and it reminded me of that thread right beforehand, where dude was saying that the industry was about to start blockin street dudes out the game - which came true.

sidenote: I wonder why nobody ever mentions that thread but me? but yall always bring up that other dude's thread. I guess its cuz the thread im referring to is a lot older.

Ghost is an A level elite emcee. I'll get back to you on specific examples of songs where he sounds uninspired after I've relistened a second time. Off the top of my head - Harlem Streets.

:what:
harlem streets is a laid-back joint. what did you want him to do? spaz out and yell?

he executed the track perfectly. one of my favorite joints on there. a must-play song when riding around at night if that cd was in your call.

How am I deflecting if its not my claim?
I appreciate the more nuanced breakdown though.
Let's take that first verse of Girls for example...that to me is a verse where the focus seems to be more on making multis then on making sense. I understand what he's getting at with every line (other than the fun pass reference). But the verse does seem like a series of non-sequiturs, now 90% of rap is a series of non-sequiturs - but you get the idea though.

For example - might notice/white lotus (I'm assuming thats a club or something similar)/type bogus/quite focused. He's just doing what he needs to do to get the multis - it makes sense - but he's not really trying to say anything there.

it may not be your claim, but why are you asking us to post examples?

again, youre zeroing in on the same exact singles. and you even admit that it all makes sense. and that's despite the fact that "girls" is just comedy.

fun pass is some new York chit. its like what they call a transpass. yall might call it something else where you at.

I'm asking for you to post examples because I don't think this claim that Cam is this rapper that only appeals to the streets through the use of coded street slang holds weight.
And I didn't zero in on anything, I used the song you used as an example. And this "comedy" thing is weak. He hoped it would blow up and it did, in his face.

Good looking out on the fun pass.

cam's entire steez is based off of covert drug/street references like ghostface, and wu made prevalent in the mid nineties.

@ the bolded, I never said all of that. youre making mountains out of molehills. I never said he appeals only to the streets. but im saying that a lot of people don't understand what hes saying a lot of the time. and 9 times out of 10, its people that don't have much street in them. keep in mind, this entire side-argument was started by a kanye west fan.......

again, why are you asking me to post examples? because you know that you cant get an answer out of the people that came in here talking that chitty-chit? its their responsibility to post examples that don't exist. not to mention, we were already in this thread quoting verses that went over the average joe schmoe's head. we weren't doing it to support the argument tho, because that argument is beneath us.

dude called yall out for using the same singles, and you continued doing it. GIRLS? really>

and I don't understand why youre trying to dissect "girls". its like people who critique biggie's "playa hater" record.

The argument (that it appears we have inherited) is that people who think Cam went through a period where he was rapping gibberish just don't get all these hustling references.
When I get a chance to listen to more PH I'll post examples of times I think he's getting a little gibberishy. You don't have to respond, it's not your responsibility.

I didn't see any verses that went over my head. But then again, I'm not the average joe schmoe, and its difficult to ascertain what level I slang is well known as opposed to obscure.

I didn't single out girls. You used flea flicker a an example of a reference some people don't get. That was from girls.

Playa Hater was obvious filler and probably done when they were drunk/high. Girls was a single that was actually released. Big difference.
