Can an argument be made that todays rappers are more talented than "golden era" rappers??

I had A Convo Wit My Homie The Other Day About This.
he said... today rappers like uzi, & Boat are winning!!! :BigQuint:nobody care about lyrical dudes no more :BrookeDis:

And Then I Said:

Well Bruh, If No One Cared About Lyrics & Bars Why Does J cole Continue to do good without a club record or feature hmmm? :sas2:
Why Do people continue to call kendrick King and hype over everything he does? hmmm? :sas2:
Why Did everyone flip out when shia lebof spit that fire on sway? hmmm? :sas2:

WHY??? Do people say Eminem is the rap God and call him the greatest? Its Simple. :sas1:
No Matter how much Mubble Rap, Generic Mainstream Pop Trash Gets Pushed People Will Always Know the difference Between Bars & BS

Quality Will always Stand Out It was the Golden Era Cause there was sooo much quality so many dope emcees in one place at one time that all knew how to rhyme rapped about real things :noah: and even did epic compilation albums competing with each others skill :myman:

I'm a young dude and Some New Rappers I rock wit But as far as I'm concerned the Golden Era >>>> This One.

I love the golden era... I'm just sayin, them nikkas were lacking in certain areas. They weren't these god level musicians and song writers that we claim them to be.... and you're talking to someone who was a snob and hated all the new shyt a few years ago.... but I'm just being honest.

that era was closer to poetry...

this era is closer to musicality & song writing & melody... you know, the three things that almost all forms of recorded music is based on globally....
what songs out now are going to be considered classics 10 to 20 years down the line

You can't put a whole generations of rappers in one group. Just take each rapper individually and compare him to another rapper. some new rappers are better than some 90s rappers, and some are not.

Sure. Just because someone doesn't like hip hop the same exact way you do doesn't mean they don't like it at all. You're not an authority or gate keeper, you're just some dude :yeshrug:
Fair enough.
But I would think finding rapping boring would be disqualifying.
There's a lot of people who listen to rap but aren't really fans of the shyt

Bone is an exception and are rarely herald when 90s heads romanticize about the golden era.

Bone was so ahead of their time that they appealed to the south more than Biggie, pac, Wu tang, Nas, Mobb Deep ever did and thats because of their musicality which is what the OP is talking about

OP ain't talking about shyt.

Bone simply ain't heralded because they from Ohio, not because people didn't love or know how great they was....they unfortunately wasn't apart of any movement or rise,or ressurgance, just a stand alone act.

OP actually scoffed at the fact that nikkas wasn't trying desperately to cross over....sorry if dressing like a fakkit, appealing to cacs, and compromising yourself wasn't neccesary to find success back in the day:sas1:

Matter of fact we rejected it,unlike the assimilated ass nikkas of today's generation...we were defiantly nikkas:banderas:

Lil Uzi - XO Tour Life.... like 40 Migos records..... Meek got joints.... Drake got joints.... I'm not bouta sit here and name every one..... because the people who actually enjoy today's music understand the point of the thread... if you're not even into todays era of music, theres nothing I can say to change your mind...we have streaming now... you can listen to all the old classics you want

Keep in mind, I actually love BOTH eras (yes, its possible) but I understand both are bringing something different to the table

the old heads had BARS.... the young nikkas got HITS (without sampling hits or getting some random chick in the booth).... the young nikkas got ENERGY... the young nikkas got flows that never been heard before (songwriting).. thats why they take it so personal when someone jacks their flow I guess... its just DIFFERENT........ the producers are so much more epic in their production too which plays a big role in the music too....

comparing the sauce of today to the sauce of yesterday is like comparing apples and oranges....

you either like it or you dont.... but we have streaming, so you can enjoy what you prefer

The biggest thing I give this era is the production. it's clear production has surpassed the mic talent. I actually would appreciate if there were split branches of hip hop where one was just an instrumental genre. A lot of dudes ain't adding much to songs - from drake to Uzi vert to Ross, etc - but they end up with some fire ass beats that ride with or without rapping. :ohlawd:

Bout 7-8 years ago we could've said that. When Wayne was coming down from his peak, Kanye was doing his thing, Wiz and Drake were on a steady rise, Tip Gucci and Jeezy had the ATL scene locked, and Ross was putting it down for nikkas he smacked on in prison

Now we just have a bunch of whiny bytch boys writing 3-5 words a bar for a 8 bar verse and crying on the 12-16 bar chorus. Anybody can rap, yes. Anyone can make music but it takes talent, an ear, life experiences, etc. to bring the art form to its full potential. A lot of these nikkas coming up or that came up don't respek the art anymore

Again, who gets to decide exactly who is or isn't a fan from an objective basis? Plus you are probably making the mistake of thinking that someone who doesn't enjoy super technical boring rap doesn't understand it. For me at least, that's not the case. shyt either resonates with you or it doesn't, and that is very subjective and individual. So trying to force your personal preferences as some kind of objective standard is silly
