Can an argument be made that todays rappers are more talented than "golden era" rappers??

with all due respect, I dont think his target demographic were mobb deep fans from the golden age :manny:

Kendrick just dropped tho, so enjoy that.

I dont know why yall act like its only one subgenre of hip hop being made... there are 300 new lyrical nikkas popping up every week just like there are 300 new melody rappers poppin up... .were in the soundcloud era... new rappers are born every 40 mins..... go find the shyt you like :dwillhuh:

This is what is killing rap IMO, actually. I'm not going to go listen to 999 garbage nikkas in the hopes of finding one that's OK. Everybody is not meant to rap, but shyt like Soundcloud has removed all barriers and filters for garbage. It's a net minus. Back in the day you had to prove you were worth the studio time to get on. Now all you need is a laptop, a bootleg copy of FL Studio and a Blue Yeti mic.

Couldn't disagree more. All this trap production is absolute :trash:
Breh, there is a lot more fire production going on than just trap, listen to the shyt from the TDE camp, cardo, clams casino, statik selekta, hell even drake's boy 40, justice league...and a whole bunch of other shyt I can't name cuz i don't really clock producers

Again, who gets to decide exactly who is or isn't a fan from an objective basis? Plus you are probably making the mistake of thinking that someone who doesn't enjoy super technical boring rap doesn't understand it. For me at least, that's not the case. shyt either resonates with you or it doesn't, and that is very subjective and individual. So trying to force your personal preferences as some kind of objective standard is silly
Do you think there are any definitional characteristics to hip hop?
I would say rapping is a pretty key one.
What I'm trying to get as is that I think there are kids today calling themselves hip hop fans who listen to Young Thug and Future and Lil Uzi Vert who would hear this

And have no reaction to G Rap's verse.
Yet at the time it was heralded as an amazing verse.
So those people who have no reaction, and cal themselves hip hop fans? Ok. But there's a difference.

Why does it have to be called hip hop?
At what point does sub genre become something different?

Man, I get where you're coming from but come the fukk on, this genre changes A LOT. That whole sound is just so different, they can respect it but expecting them to be blown away is just silly. My brother used to pay me what was hot shyt in the 80's and I completely respect the impact it had back then, but I wasn't :ooh: @ that shyt the way I was when I heard a dope Pac, bone, or DMX song.

That's my whole point though. Why not just call it a different genre? The answer? Corporate marketing is my guess. Why try and reinvent the wheel? Just call everything hip hop forever :lolbron:
You're using the "call it some thing else" where it's convenient for you. That shyt from the late 70's-mid 80s should technically be the only thing called hip hop then because by the mid 90's it had changed dramatically. pretty sure some jive turkeys who only appreciated the dawn of hip hop were sitting around listening to boom bap and "dunny" talk with a look of :scust:

Lil Uzi - XO Tour Life.... like 40 Migos records..... Meek got joints.... Drake got joints.... I'm not bouta sit here and name every one..... because the people who actually enjoy today's music understand the point of the thread... if you're not even into todays era of music, theres nothing I can say to change your mind...we have streaming now... you can listen to all the old classics you want

Keep in mind, I actually love BOTH eras (yes, its possible) but I understand both are bringing something different to the table

the old heads had BARS.... the young nikkas got HITS (without sampling hits or getting some random chick in the booth).... the young nikkas got ENERGY... the young nikkas got flows that never been heard before (songwriting).. thats why they take it so personal when someone jacks their flow I guess... its just DIFFERENT........ the producers are so much more epic in their production too which plays a big role in the music too....

comparing the sauce of today to the sauce of yesterday is like comparing apples and oranges....

you either like it or you dont.... but we have streaming, so you can enjoy what you prefer

I strongly disagree at the idea yall got more flows if that's what your saying:comeon:,somebody else said that same thing earlier.

And you talking about us comparing when the OP the one who tried to compare....and the comparisons were made on the grounds of nikkas dressing better, being cuter:scust:,and being able to crossover.

Speaking of which, how they crossover more than golden era rappers?that ain't what the sales say?that ain't what the endorsements say....only argument yall would have is Drake, and we had Mc Hammer:sas1:...any Drake cartoons in the works?any way prime Michael Jackson would be shook of Drake,or any of these other rappers who can "hold their own" on a dance floor:mjlol:...I fukk with alot of these new cats, doing they thing....we tryna be humble but threads like this pop up,you leave us no choice but to embarrass this new collective crop of wack ass nikkas...salute to the future and already legends, but it's only like 5 or less in a 10 year period:laff:...imagine the 90's only producing 5 legends:laff:

And oh yeah, women filing rap charges on rappers is at a all time high....even the groupies ain't tryna get touched by these petite gremlins, but yall so sexy right:pachaha:

I strongly enjoy both eras so I dont know what you want me to say?

you want me to apologize? bow down? pay homage? I dont care bro... Imma keep enjoying both eras of music.

I'm just not fascinated by the 90s the same way youre not fascinated by the 80s and 80s heads arent fascinated by the 70s etc etc ... but I enjoy music overall.

I dont know why you wrote a essay bytching... there are many people just like me... who enjoy BOTH... fukk ya feelings, its just music

People are fans of what they grow up with. Do I have to praise an Atari 2600 before I should be allowed to play a PS4?

Not to mention you keep demanding that kids pay respect to your old music, and then turn around and call any new artist you can name garbage :comeon: and then have the nerve to wonder why lines of communication break down
