Many see this as the Bible condoning all forms of slavery. What many fail to understand is that slavery in biblical times was very different from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many parts of the world. The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on race. People were not enslaved because of their nationality or the color of their skin. In Bible times, slavery was based more on economics; it was a matter of social status. People sold themselves as slaves when they could not pay their debts or provide for their families. In New Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were slaves of someone else. Some people actually chose to be slaves so as to have all their needs provided for by their masters.
It was the good kind of slavery.:troll:

Slaves were happy to serve their masters.:troll:
Slavemasters were kind to their property.:troll:

To answer the OP's question; during the period that those passages were written, slavemasters discovered it was easier to control a man's body once you took control of his mind and thus these stories were created to tell slaves to obey their masters. Without large educational systems for the masses and considering the difficulty in dissemenating information at the time, stories were often the main vehicle in instilling social mores. Aesops fables, religious fairy tales giving us 10 little rules to follow, etc. This was one of those stories.

Like any other religion most/some religious people focus on the partial incomplete passage to justify their cruel and atrocious actions.
You know the CAC's ignored the last paragraph.

Most Humans can't handle religion . I feel like be what ever that makes you better and succeed in life.

"The" - there's LOTS of books included and excluded - "Bible" - which means 'book' is actually the collection of all books of the time - is ancient literature. It's important historically but absolutely no one could take it 100% as the way to conduct yourself in 2016. The disjointed nature of it makes it contradictory within itself.. cause the two passages may have been written 1000 years apart.

Just like every Holy Book in this world including the Scientology stuff: read it. Take what you like. Leave what you wanna leave. Dianetics was dope in some parts.

I been baptised and all that but I am a scientist before all. True religion has to be scientific. Science = real. If it's not real then who cares?..outside of dope comics/movies/games/novels?

Goodness, no wonder I stopped going to church almost 15 years ago.

Christianity is the worst thing to happen to humanity.
nah, money is

christianity is second :scusthov:and of course, its just a ploy to get money

the fact that otherwise rational adults believe that 'god' and his dead corpse son are sitting in the clouds keeping tabs on their daily lives :laff:

that when they talk into thin air or in their heads, there's someone in the clouds listening :laff:

Slaves... obey... masters...
Which word are you having trouble with?:francis: Its pretty clear.
The bible was commisioned, edited, and published by a slave owning roman emperor (Constantine).

Thats why my bible is collecting dust in storage. I keep thousands of books in my home... but the bible isn't one of them.

O the other hand...
If you walk by some Jehova Witnesses tho pick up an Awake pamphlet. They at least bother to put actual information in there outside of the god rhetoric. The one for today had an article about the culture and ppl of Kyrzakastan (pretty sure i spelled that wrong) and another nature write up on the life cycle of the cicada which is a bug similar to a grasshopper.
:ehh:

But the bible is cover-to-cover about obiedience and stoic sacrafice and defering to god... so never actually raising a hand to your oppressor.
Yeah... no thx.

I'm Hard Like D-Block Readin The Book Of Enoch...
in the dayze of the Bible slavery was also an extension of war psychology/norms,if one side lost a war it twas a given that slaves would be acquired,so if one didn't obey you would just be killed, unless you had intrinsic value to both sides..

so basically in that period if you didn't obey your bible advice the winning side would find a creative way to torture/murder you..your choice:troll:

again, this twas a regular practice to most of the world, not just exclusive to the Hebrews...
