Can anyone come in here and tell me why Jimmy Carter was such a bad President?

Dude has to have one of the most unfair negative reputations of anybody in history. Republicans go with this meme that he is the model for a horrible presidency, and most people seem to just go along with it.

What did he do that was so bad? Speak facts.

the people who are hoping or believing obama is another jimmy carter will be in for a very bad surprise.

reagan was a celebrity before he became president...so he already had a legion of people who already liked him. carter is a white guy. back then, black people didn't give a rats ass about elections as they do now. black people are watching how obama is tied with romney and they know what they have to do...COME OUT IN FULL FORCE.

i cant really trust these latino voters though.

romney basically has to count only on the racist votes....and there are lots of them. i just hope they fall short!

Like Obama he either couldn't or didn't even attempt to defend his record until it was far too late. Personally he lacked a personality. He seemed to have the swag of Joe Lieberman on Ambien. That, and Democrats appear to have been bishmade since LBJ stepped down.

If the world was just, we'd have more men like Carter as President. Far from perfect, but dude had a good heart on most issues. Down to earth and went one to help millions of people around the world after leaving office.

The economy was his downfall though, as it usually is. I think even with Iran, if the economy was doing well, he would have been re-elected. 16% inflation and 22% interest rates? People don't want to hear that shyt.

Reagan was negotiating with the Iranians while he was still a candidate.
he told the Iranians to hold the hostages because that would make it easier for him to win the election because it made Carter look weak.

the day that Reagan was elected, the hostages were released....fast forward to the Iran/Contra affair...

Reagan was sending weapons to Iran to fight Iraq with money made from importing cocaine from South America....Reagan was bought and paid for by Iran and Drug Cartels.

Carter did not play those games so he got shyt on.

Jimmy Carter was not a bad president but had the misfortune of being President during a really bad confluence of events.
Adding to it that he was also eventually challenged by the GOP Jesus in Ronald Reagan and had his own Party get split down the middle by Ted Kennedy's craven aspirations to be president and it only served to create an unfair picture of his presidency.

I once wrote a paper on Carter back in my last semester of college. Dude was a good president who wasn't supported by any of the dems in congress. Dude had no clout. And like someone else said, he fumbled on the Iran hostage situation.

The Wrong Side of the Tracks
IMO, it was the long lines for gas due to the embargo coupled with the hostage crisis. I've never seen lines that long since then and hope I never do again. I'm talking miles of cars waiting for hours to get $5-$10 worth of gas before the pumps ran dry. The sh1t was ridiculous and he took the blame for it although it wasn't even his fault. The hostage crisis actually took a back-seat to the reports about the gas shortage.

Carter wasn't 'bad', but at that time, the public wanted a more gung-ho leader to 'fix' stuff and he wasn't doing it fast enough.
