Can I lie about organizations I was loosely apart of on a resume?

What happens when you hire someone with a Facebook that "checks out" and that person does a horrible job or whatever you all associated with having a "negative" Facebook?

Do y'all get reprimanded or fired for making a bad hire?

Yea, don't lie about having something as easily verifiable as a degree though. Lie about experience and qualifications, especially if you have the knowledge to back those lies up.

Use the lie to get the interview and get into that office, once you're there, impress with knowledge and get the position. If a hiring manager is impressed or influenced, he/she could care less about a reference (hence the phrase, "who you know, not what you know").

yeah turns out in larger corporations the hiring manager isn't always the final say. What's funny is the manager that was above the dude i referenced went to bat for him but HR told them both because he lied that was that.

I've worked for smaller companies that just turned a blind eye but in places with well defined policies and separate departments and such things can get more difficult.

I took a risk recently, and I put my membership of Conservative organizations on my Resume. I also annotated my campaign work for Conservative politicians.

That was actually a stupid move on my part. I applied to many organizations, and I may have been rejected because of that.

In short, don't put anything controversial on your resume, and that includes Political organizations (I'd say that Liberal Orgs are safe though), Hunting clubs, outdoors clubs, clubs that you are loosely affiliated with, and anything that has a reputation (good or bad). Why outdoors or hunting clubs? people have perceptions of Character-types that are in clubs like that.

I would even be careful about volunteer work that you put on your resume. if you're in school, I would just put Academically focused organizations only. If you're black/hispanic and you're applying to companies that are known to have diversity programs (big companies), I would put any ethnic organizations that you belong to. I wouldn't take that risk if you weren't Black/hispanic though.
