but fans are the only ones that are forced to stick it out?
if it's about loyalty, let's demand that for owners, players and everyone else
it seems like we the fans (aka consumers, customers) are the ones that are expected to not have options
there's a connection between the team and the city they play in, and it's hard to just change what town you rep if that's where you're from unless you're some military brat that has no home. Therein lies the sentimental difference.
no problem with loyalty
but loyalty is a two-way street
loyalty needs to be reciprocated
fans are loyal and all they get in return is relocated teams, owners not improving their rosters, high ticket prices, threats to pack up and leave if the city and sometimes state don't pay for stadiums and arenas
what has the fan gotten in return for their loyalty?
Ticker tape parades, the pride of one's city, and bragging rights. That's the bare minimum, but that's what fans strive for, because we really don't get much more out of these championships.
Ex. when the Lakers won a title, houston911 didn't get anything out of it other than a "yaaaaayyyyyy TeamKobe" reaction, but that's the shyt he aims for I guess.
