She just didn't pop.

"why dont we fall in love" is still one of the biggest r&b summer hits of the past 10 years id say. you play the first note of that song and everyone + 24 knows what it is. amerie had a bright career ahead of her from jump when r&b was on its tail end (at the end of the midnight love era). she was a very new artist so of course she wouldnt have had beyonce 1st album numbers.

1 thing (2nd album) was a big was hit too, summer soundtrack hit w/ remixes. and then beyonce starts with the dc gogo sound for her 1st album + crazy in love to official make a pop crossover and after that amerie's career sinks.

I am aware of this...you could say this about a few other r and b artist. In the end, people did not buy her albums. That's not Beyoncé's fault, it's the people who choose. Also, is Rich not allow to produce for other artists, the go go R and B mix is his style? He produced for Toni Braxton, is it her fault too? Her career just didn't take off. It is what is :yeshrug:.

no one else was going the gogo style sound at the time on a national scale besides amerie and rich. and then beyonce hopped on it. shes allowed to do anyone's style but audiences are also allowed to notice the swagger jacking in the same way jay doesnt not get credit for big's line just bc he is more popular now

it kinda is beyonce's fault (and other artists who use this same methodology) if her team is paying to dominate radio, tv, etc and push other people's content down/out if they may not have the same money/industry clout to compete in those rooms. from there the audience isnt deciding, its the labels forcing through money. its not like amerie wasnt popular or didnt have her own lane going successfully. her sound literally was stolen

"one thing" was the soundtrack single for "Hitch", one of the biggest summer blockbusters at the time. her career was going.

alicia was just as much of an anomaly then as beyonce is now.

5 grammy's on your first album is not normal and is a rarity, way more than exceptional for a new artist, that even rihanna does not have the pleasure of bragging about even with her success level.

That's cool but let's not act like Amerie and Keri Hilson had the potential to be the type of entertainer Beyoncé is.
Also it ain't like Beyoncé doesn't have the total package. Looks, above average voice, and dancing. That's hard to beat.
Beyoncé does have the total package (her voice is actually just ok tho).....but we're not talkin about B not justifiably being number 1, we're talking about Beyoncé being the ONLY one....:yeshrug:......there is no justifiable quality that Beyoncé has that gives merit to her being the ONLY female rnb artist today (aside from Rihanna who is jay z's basically).......but anyone not connected to either B or J that does high quality rnb has been obliterated......nothing justifies that, not even the entertainment package Beyoncé provides.

Amerie wasn't holding down no damn #2 spot. if anything Alicia keys was 1 and Beyoncé was 2, not to mention Mary and Mariah were still moving units and touching platinum. Like a said 1 thing was a huge single but her album still struggled to go gold. Stop making amerie more than what she was, she was never on that level.
Breh....Mariah dropped a SURPRISE hit album in either 06 or 05.....Mary dropped an album that was a dud in end of 06 or beginning 07.......Alicia keys did nothing after you don't know my name (bout 03) until New York with Jay Z(bout 09)....Alicia fell back for almost six years behind the commercial success in 03.....in 04-05 Amerie was POPPIN' nikka.......was she goin platinum, no......cuz she was VERY urban based.....all her production came outta hood DC, hood east coast....but nonetheless she was definitely number 2 for those bout 4 years.....then Keri hilson came somewhere in that time period......but mjb and Mariah were definitely on the down swing and Alicia was posted from a crazy successful second effort. Nobody expected Mariah to have a hit record in 06....nobody

I think Amerie and Donnel Jones have similar career paths. The first album was so good, and they could never repeat that success , under different circumstances of course.

I will agree with keyshia Cole being shut down, the dream even confirmed it. This is not the case with amerie though like y'all keep making it out to be, amerie was as big as she was gonna get.

Like who had the potential to compete with B, but didn't because of industry shade?
Keisha cole(better voice, had a great look)
Amerie
Kerri Hilson
Jennifer Hudson(after the Grammy in dream girls her music career fizzled....I wonder why:francis:)
And probably a host of chicks that are on the cutting room floor that I don't even know about .....or can't think of at the moment. Aside from faith, puff never tried to put out a solo female artist....he thought about it wit the white chick from dannity Kane, but nah and he couldn't make the dirty money girls work.......puff knew the hold on that market......it wasn't profitable
